GENERAL LEARNING OUTCOMES: THE TEACHING AIMS TO MAKE THE STUDENT ACQUAINTED WITH CRITICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS THAT MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR HIM TO EXAMINE THE ROLE PLAYED BY LANGUAGE IN RELATION TO OTHER AREAS OF HUMAN EXPERIENCE. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: AT THE END OF THE LESSONS THE STUDENT: - WILL KNOW A CLASSICAL THEME OF PHILOSOPHICAL-LINGUISTIC REFLECTION IN ITS THEORETICAL ARTICULATION AND, AT LEAST PARTIALLY, IN ITS HISTORICAL EVOLUTION. - WILL UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HISTORY AND THEORY IN THE ANALYSIS OF LANGUAGE. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE STUDENT WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO: - ANALYZE PHILOSOPHICAL-LINGUISTIC TEXTS OF MEDIUM-COMPLEX DIFFICULTY. - DISCUSS THE THEORIES CONTAINED IN THEM. - APPLY THE LOGICAL-ARGUMENTATIVE TOOLS TO A SPECIFIC OBJECT OF ANALYSIS MAKING JUDGMENTS: THE STUDENT WILL DEVELOP CONCEPTUAL TOOLS AND CRITICAL SKILLS USEFUL FOR EVALUATING, ANALYZING AND AUTONOMOUSLY INTERPRETING SOURCES AND METHODOLOGICAL ISSUES SPECIFIC TO THIS, AS WELL AS TO OTHER RELATED DISCIPLINES. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE HIS KNOWLEDGE AND HIS CONCEPTUAL PROCESSING SKILLS AT DIFFERENT LEVELS (TO AN AUDIENCE BOTH OF EXPERTS AND OF NON-EXPERTS), EXPRESSING THEM WITH SPECIFIC LANGUAGE PROPERTIES AND LEXICAL SKILLS, AND USING THE MOST COMMON REGISTER SUITABLE FOR EACH CIRCUMSTANCE. LEARNING SKILLS: THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX TEXTS AND USE BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS, BOTH TRADITIONAL AND IT, TO IDENTIFY AND SELECT THE SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE USEFUL FOR INCREASING HIS KNOWLEDGE. |

DURING THE ORAL EXAM, STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO DEMONSTRATE NOT ONLY A GOOD COMMAND OF THE MATERIAL CONTAINED IN THE REFERENCE TEXTS BUT ALSO THE ABILITY TO ARGUE (ALBEIT AT AN ELEMENTARY LEVEL) FOR OR AGAINST THE POSITIONS PRESENTED AND TO APPLY THEIR ARGUMENTATIVE SKILLS IN SOLVING SIMPLE PROBLEMS. THE FINAL JUDGMENT WILL MAINLY TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE STUDENT'S ARGUMENTATIVE SKILLS. |
