THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE IS THE ACQUISITION OF WRITTEN AND ORAL SKILLS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE CORRESPONDING TO LEVEL B2 OF THE CEFR WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO SPECIFIC FIELDS OF STUDY (HISTORICAL-LITERARY-PHILOLOGICAL) THROUGH THE LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS OF SPECIALIZED ELECTRONIC CORPORA. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR 1) THE STUDENT WILL DEVELOP KNOWLEDGE AND COMPREHENSION SKILLS REGARDING - THE MOST WIDESPREAD COMPUTER APPLICATIONS FOR THE DIGITIZATION AND ARCHIVING OF DOCUMENTS BOTH IN THE LITERARY FIELD AND IN THE CULTURAL HERITAGE FIELD - THE MAIN METHODOLOGIES AND ADVANCED TECHNIQUES FOR THE COLLECTION, ANALYSIS AND MANAGEMENT OF LINGUISTIC DATA, WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE PROCESSING OF DATABASES - THE COMMUNICATION OF DIFFERENT GENRES AND FORMATS, INCLUDING THE MOST POPULAR ONES, ALSO THROUGH NEW INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR 2 ) - THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - PERFORM DATA MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES, ALSO IN ELECTRONIC FORMAT, ANALYSIS AND CRITICAL EVALUATION OF THE ISSUES ADDRESSED (DESCRIPTION OF LINGUISTIC STRUCTURES, SEMANTIC-STYLISTIC INTERPRETATION OR ENTIRE AUTHORIAL CORPORA OR INDIVIDUAL WORKS, ETC.); - COMMUNICATE AND ARGUE IN DIFFERENT PROFESSIONAL FIELDS ALSO IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE; - USE THE MOST WIDESPREAD AND COMMON SYSTEMS OF LABELING LINGUISTIC UNITS AT ALL LEVELS OF ANALYSIS AND THE COMPUTER TOOLS DEDICATED TO THEM; - MANAGE AND INTERROGATE LINGUISTIC DATABASES, ELECTRONIC DICTIONARIES, FREQUENCY LEXICONS, AND OBTAIN FROM THEM DATA FOR QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS AND INTER-LINGUISTIC COMPARISONS; - APPLY THE PRINCIPLES OF LINGUISTIC AND SOCIO-LINGUISTIC INQUIRY IN A VARIETY OF COMMUNICATIVE CONTEXTS. AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR 3) THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO - ANALYZE AND REVISE ALL ASPECTS OF LINGUISTIC PRODUCTION BOTH ORAL AND WRITTEN, LITERARY TEXTS BUT ALSO THOSE OF TECHNICAL-SPECIALIST FIELD RELATED TO DIFFERENT CONTEXTS AND BRANCHES OF KNOWLEDGE COMMUNICATION SKILLS (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR 4 ) THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO - COMMUNICATE CLEARLY, THROUGH APPROPRIATE LEXICAL AND GRAMMATICAL CHOICES, THE ESSENTIAL CONTENT OF A SPECIALIZED TEXT. - INTERACT IN SHORT, SIMPLE CONVERSATIONS ON TOPICS OF PERSONAL, SOCIAL, OR PROFESSIONAL INTEREST. LEARNING SKILLS (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR 5 ) THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - IDENTIFY AND USE THE TOOLS OF ANALYSIS, IN-DEPTH STUDY, AND SCIENTIFIC UPDATING FOR LINGUISTIC AND LITERARY DISCIPLINES - ACCESS SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE PRODUCED IN ENGLISH - USE THE MAIN COMPUTER TOOLS IN THE SPECIFIC AREAS OF COMPETENCE (SKILLS RELATED TO THE NEW LANGUAGES OF COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION). |

LEARNING OUTCOMES WILL BE TESTED THROUGH TWO WRITTEN TESTS (GRAMMAR, PHONOLOGY, COMPREHENSION AND ANALYSIS OF A TEXT) AND ORAL TESTS. THE ORAL TEST WILL INCLUDE: 1. LISTENING TO AND COMPREHENSION OF A MONOLOGUE (WITH MULTIPLE-CHOICE EXERCISES, WITH A 5/5 GRADE), 2. LISTENING TO AND COMPREHENSION OF A DIALOGUE (WITH INSERTION EXERCISES, WITH A 5/5 GRADE EACH), 3. BRIEF PRESENTATION OF TOPICS (6 MINUTES+QUESTION TIME) ON THEMES COHERENT WITH THE COURSE OF STUDY. THE EVALUATION OF THIS TEST (IN 20/20 TO BE ADDED TO THE 10/10 OF THE LISTENING TEST) WILL BE MADE ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING SCHEME: ASSESSMENT GRID FOR SPEAKING TEST FOR EACH ANALYTICAL CRITERION STUDENTS WILL BE ASSIGNED A MARK RANGING FROM 1 TO 5. A. GRAMMAR AND VOCABULARY, B. PRONUNCIATION, C. DISCOURSE MANAGEMENT, D. INTERACTIVE COMMUNICATION. THE WRITTEN TESTS ARE MANDATORY TO THE ORAL TEST. ANY UNSUCCESSFUL PROGRESS TESTS CAN BE MADE UP AT THE NEXT INTERCOURSE TEST. THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE LEARNING OBJECTIVES IS CERTIFIED BY PASSING AN EXAM WITH AN EVALUATION EXPRESSED THROUGH AN OVERALL GRADE IN 30/30. GRADES LOWER THAN 18 WILL BE EQUIVALENT TO AN INSUFFICIENT ASSESSMENT OF LEARNING. |
