THE CLASS AIMS TO GIVE STUDENTS A ROBUST KNOWLEDGE ABOUT: - THE COGNITIVE PROCESSES AND THE BIOLOGICAL BASES UNDERLYING LANGUAGE PROCESSING; - HUMAN COMMUNICATION; -THE LINGUISTIC DISORDERS FOLLOWING BRAIN DAMAGE OR OTHER PATHOLOGICAL CONDITIONS. THE CLASS WILL PERMIT STUDENTS TO: -MANAGE THE ORGANIZATIONAL CRITERIA WITHIN THE MENTAL LEXICON, THE PRINCIPLES OF FUNCTIONING OF THE LANGUAGE PROCESSING SYSTEM, THE FACTORS AFFECTING WORDS, SENTENCES, TEXTS AND DISCOURSE PROCESSING BOTH IN WRITTEN AND SPOKEN MODALITY AND BOTH IN NORMAL AND DISRUPTED PROCESSES OF LANGUAGE PRODUCTION AND COMPREHENSION; -STUDY THE THEORETICAL AND NEURO-FUNCTIONAL MODELS ABOUT LINGUISTIC PHENOMENA AND HUMAN LINGUISTIC ABILITIES. STUDENTS WILL IMPROVE THEIR ABILITY TO: - CRITICALLY ANALYSE THE SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE IN THE FIELD OF PSYCHOLOGY AND NEUROPSYCHOLOGY OF LANGUAGE; -TO INVESTIGATE EMPIRICALLY THE MOST RELEVANT PHENOMENA IN THE DISCIPLINE THROUGH THE SEVERAL PHASES OF THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD: OBSERVATION OF PHENOMENA, FORMULATION OF EXPERIMENTAL HYPOTHESES, IMPLEMENTATION OF THE EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN, INTERPRETATION OF RESULTS IN THE LIGHT OF THE STARTING THEORETICAL HYPOTHESIS, APPLICATION OF RESULTS IN THE FIELD OF THE CORPORATE COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA. STUDENTS WILL ALSO LEARN HOW TO APPLY THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL PRINCIPLES OF THE PSYCHOLOGY AND NEUROPSYCHOLOGY OF LANGUAGE IN SEVERAL EMPIRICAL CONTEXTS: EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH, EDUCATION AND TEACHING, MEDICINE AND REHABILITATION, COMMUNICATION SCIENCES. THE CLASS OF PSYCHOLOGY AND NEUROPSYCHOLOGY OF LANGUAGE AIMS TO IMPROVE THE ABILITY TO PROFITABLY EXPLOIT PSYCHO- AND NEUROLINGUISTIC DATA IN ORDER TO DEVELOP INNOVATIVE IDEAS, THEORIES AND VISIONS ABOUT SOCIAL SCIENTIFIC AND ETHIC TOPICS IN THE FIELD OF COMMUNICATION SCIENCES, PARTICULARLY, IN THE FIELD OF CORPORATE COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA. STUDENTS IN THE CLASS WILL LEARN HOW TO DISCUSS ABOUT PSYCHOLINGUISTICS AND NEUROPSYCHOLOGY OF LANGUAGE WITH BOTH EXPERT AND NON-SPECIALIST INTERLOCUTORS. THE CLASS WILL DEVELOP THE FOLLOWING SKILLS: -SEARCHING INTERNATIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC ON-LINE AND OFF-LINE DATABASES; -CONDUCTING EMPIRICAL RESEARCH PROJECTS ON COGNITIVE PROCESS WITH REFERENCE TO THE FIELD OF CORPORATE COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA; -CREATING AND MANAGING REPOSITORIES OF COGNITIVE PROCESSES DATA TO BE USED IN RESEARCHES IN THE FIELD OF THE CORPORATE COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA. |

EXAMS CONSIST OF A WRITTEN EXAMINATION WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF AN ORAL INTERVIEW. WRITTEN EXAMINATION IS COMPOSED OF MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION AND OPEN QUESTIONS. THE MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS (4 ALTERNATIVES, ONE CORRECT RESPONSE) ALLOW TO EXPLORE VARIOUS TOPICS ICLUDED IN THE PSYCHOLOGY AND NEUROPSYCHOLOGY OF LANGUAGE COURSE PROGRAM. THE OPEN QUESTIONS ALLOW STUDENTS TO PRODUCE A BRIEF WRITTEN TEXT ABOUT PSYCHOLINGISTIC AND NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUES BY EPLOITING THEIR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE SPECIALIZED JARGON, THE CONCEPTS AND THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS AS ACQUIRED DURING THE CLASS. SUCH A TEST WILL SHOW THE STUDENTS ABILITY TO RECONCILE THE SPECIFIC NOTIONS ACQUIRED IN THE CLASS WITH THE BROADER FIELD OF CORPORATE AND MEDIA COMMUNICATION. AN ORAL INTERVIEW MAY ALSO HELP IN EVALUATING ABILITIES OF CRITICAL AND INDEPENDENT THINKING AS ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENTS ATTENDING THE CLASS. |
