Objectives
THE TEACHING AIMS TO PROVIDE BASIC KNOWLEDGES ABOUT THE HISTORY OF LATIN AMERICA FROM THE BREAKING OF COLONIAL TIES THE PRESENT. THE GOAL IS TO OFFER STUDENTS THE TOOLS NECESSARY TO CRITICALLY INTERPRET THE MAIN STAGES OF LATIN AMERICAN HISTORY FROM THE ERA OF INDEPENDENCE TO THE BEGINNING OF THE 21ST CENTURY. DWELLING ON THE EVENTS OF THE MAIN COUNTRY CASES IN CENTRAL, ANDEAN AND SOUTH AMERICA, THE COURSE AIMS TO CLARIFY THE INTERNAL AND INTERNATIONAL DYNAMICS OF AN AREA CHARACTERIZED BY PROFOUND ELEMENTS OF UNITY AND DIVERSITY. AS FOLLOWS, THE COURSE WILL ALLOW THE STUDENT TO CRITICALLY ANALYZE THE MAJOR HISTORICAL JUNCTIONS OF LATIN AMERICA.

Contents
THE CONTENTS WILL BE PROPOSED WITH THE AIM OF RELATING THREE SPECIFIC DIMENSIONS: THAT OF THE STATE, RELATING TO THE SEARCH FOR STABLE POLITICAL REGIMES; THE REGIONAL DIMENSION, ABOUT THE EXPERIMENTATION OF DISTINCT PROJECTS AND MODELS OF INTEGRATION; AND THE INTERNATIONAL DIMENSION, ABOUT THE CLAIM FOR MORE AUTONOMOUS, DYNAMIC AND ASSERTIVE FOREIGN POLICIES. THE ISSUES ADDRESSED WILL CONCERN: THE STRUGGLES FOR INDEPENDENCE AND THE BREAKING OF COLONIAL BONDS; THE ORGANIZATION OF THE REPUBLICS AMID INTERNAL TENSIONS AND INTERNATIONAL OPENINGS; THE ADOPTION OF THE PRIMARY-EXPORTER MODEL; CAUDILLISM, POPULISMS AND NEO-POPULISMS; THE REVOLUTIONS OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY; THE EVOLUTION OF INTER-AMERICAN RELATIONS; THE STAGES OF REGIONALISM; THE TENSION BETWEEN DEMOCRACY AND DICTATORSHIP; THE COLD WAR IN LATIN AMERICA; THE INTERNATIONAL PROJECTION OF LATIN AMERICA AFTER THE COLD WAR.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES LECTURES (34 HOURS) EXERCISES AND SEMNIARS ON SPECIFIC TOPICS (6 HOURS). ATTENDANCE, ALTHOUGH NOT MANDATORY, IS RECOMMENDED
Verification of learning
THE VERIFICATION OF LEARNING WILL TAKE THROUGHT A FINAL ORAL TEST TO ASSESS THE STUDENT'S KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO DEBATE ABOUT THE EVENTS EXAMINED DURING THE COURSE AND ABOUT THE TEXTS INDICATED IN THE BIBLIOGRAPHY.
