Objectives
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE COURSE AIMS TO DEEPEN THE BASES OF EPISTEMOLOGY AND THE ROLE OF SOCIAL RESEARCH. BASIC CONCEPTS AND PROCEDURES IN EXPERIMENTAL AND EMPIRICAL RESEARCH WILL BE STUDIED IN DEPTH, ILLUSTRATING IN PARTICULAR THE CHARACTERISTICS OF QUALITATIVE RESEARCH. AT THE END OF THE COURSE, THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: KNOW THE ADVANTAGES AND LIMITS OF QUALITATIVE RESEARCH; DISTINGUISH AND COMPARE THE FUNDAMENTAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL APPROACHES OF QUALITATIVE EMPIRICAL RESEARCH; RECOGNIZE THE FUNDAMENTAL STAGES OF QUALITATIVE RESEARCH.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO ANALYZE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF SOME RESEARCH TOOLS, PROCEDURES AND METHODOLOGIES THAT CAN BE USED IN QUALITATIVE RESEARCH, SUCH AS THE SYSTEMATIC REVIEW OF LITERATURE, THE USE OF CASE STUDIES, ETHNOGRAPHY, GROUNDED THEORY AND GIOIA METHODOLOGY. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO READ AND INTERPRET THE RESULTS OF QUALITATIVE EMPIRICAL RESEARCH, ANALYZE AND CRITICALLY EVALUATE - IN THEIR FUNDAMENTAL METHODOLOGICAL ASPECTS - SUCH RESEARCH, APPLIED TO THE SOCIAL SCIENCES.
Prerequisites
NO PREREQUISITE.
Contents
MODULE 1: GROUNDED THEORY AND GIOIA METHODOLOGY (FRONTAL AND PARTICIPATIVE LESSONS – 4 HOURS).
INTERPRETIVISM IN SOCIAL RESEARCH. USING INFERENCES (DEDUCTIVE, INDUCTIVE AND ABDUCTIVE). ADVANTAGES AND LIMITATIONS OF GROUNDED THEORY. GIOIA METHODOLOGY
MODULE 2: CASE THEORY & CASE STUDY RESEARCH; BUILDING THEORIES FROM CASE STUDY RESEARCH (FRONTAL AND PARTICIPATIVE LESSONS – 4 HOURS).
SCIENTIFICITY AND ROBUSTNESS OF QUALITATIVE RESEARCH. ‘PARTICULARIZATION’ AND ‘GENERALIZATION’ RESEARCH PATHS IN CASE THEORY. CASE STUDY ACCORDING TO THE YIN PROTOCOL.
MODULE 3: LITERATURE REVIEW ANALYSIS (FRONTAL AND PARTICIPATIVE LESSONS – 4 HOURS).
THE SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW: DEFINITIONS, APPROACHES AND STEPS (KEYWORDS SEARCHING ON DATABASES, CONTRIBUTION SCREENING, SYSTEMATIZE AND INTERPRET THE RESULTS). THE PRISMA METHODOLOGY. STRUCTURED LITERATURE REVIEW.
MODULE 4: ONLINE RESEARCH METHODS (CONTENT ANALYSIS AND ETHNOGRAPHY) (FRONTAL AND PARTICIPATIVE LESSONS – 8 HOURS).
INTRODUCTION TO ONLINE RESEARCH METHODS. ANALYZING INFORMATION FROM SOCIAL NETWORKS: ONLINE CONTENT ANALYSIS. ANALYZING USER INTERACTIONS ON SOCIAL NETWORKS: THE NETNOGRAPHIC APPROACH.
Teaching Methods
FRONTAL AND PARTICIPATIVE LESSONS FOR 20 HOURS. THEORETICAL LESSONS WITH THE USE OF POWERPOINT WILL ALTERNATE WITH SIMULATIONS IN LABORATORY FORM, AND THE PRESENTATION-DISCUSSION OF EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH PROJECTS CARRIED OUT.
Verification of learning
THE EXAMS WILL BE HELD WITH AN ORAL INTERVIEW, WRITTEN TEST AND A PROJECT SIMULATION FOCUSED ON THE DEEPENING OF THE COURSE TOPICS AND TO THEIR UNDERSTANDING BY THE STUDENT. THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE TEACHING OBJECTIVES WILL BE CERTIFIED BY PASSING AN EXAM WITH AN EVALUATION EXPRESSED THROUGH A JUDGMENT (FROM SUFFICIENT TO EXCELLENT).
THE MINIMUM (SUFFICIENT), WHEN THE LEARNER PRESENTS A FRAGMENTARY KNOWLEDGE OF THE THEORETICAL CONTENTS OF THE COURSE AND A POOR ABILITY TO CONTEXTUALIZE THEM.
THE MAXIMUM (EXCELLENT) IS ASSIGNED WHEN THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES A COMPLETE KNOWLEDGE OF THE THEORETICAL CONTENTS AND THE ABILITY TO OPERATE AUTONOMOUSLY THE CONCEPTUAL LINKS BETWEEN THEM.
Texts
TEACHING MATERIAL WILL BE DISTRIBUTED.
