GENERAL OBJECTIVE THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE MAIN THEORETICAL AND APPLICATIVE FUNDAMENTALS FOR UNDERSTANDING THE BEHAVIOUR OF EXCAVATION AND RETAINING STRUCTURE WORKS AND THEIR ENGINEERING MODELLING IN RELATION TO A WIDE VARIETY OF STRESS CONDITIONS. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE STUDENT WILL: - KNOW THE FUNDAMENTALS OF THE THEORIES FOR THE ANALYSIS OF SOIL THRUST UNDER STATIC AND DYNAMIC CONDITIONS, IN THE SHORT AND LONG TERM; - UNDERSTAND THE METHODOLOGICAL APPROACHES FOR THE DESIGN OF RETAINING STRUCTURES ACCORDING TO THE CURRENT REGULATIONS; - BE FAMILIAR WITH TRADITIONAL AND INNOVATIVE TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - ANALYSE THE TENSIONAL STATE OF THE GROUND TO BE SUPPORTED BY THE WORKS; - CHOOSE THE MOST SUITABLE TYPE OF WORK; - DESIGN THE WORK, FORECAST ITS INTERACTION WITH THE ENVIRONMENT. AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - CRITICALLY EXAMINE THE RESULTS OF THE ANALYSES CARRIED OUT; - CHECK THE CORRECTNESS OF THE DESIGN CHOICES MADE. COMMUNICATION SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - WORK IN GROUPS AND ORALLY PRESENT GEOTECHNICAL PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE ANALYSIS OF SOIL THRUST, THE BEHAVIOUR OF RETAINING STRUCTURES, THE EVALUATION OF THE ADVANTAGES OF USING INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGICAL SOLUTIONS; - REPRESENT RESULTS OF ONE'S OWN DESIGN ELABORATIONS; - COMMUNICATE, BY MEANS OF TEXTS OR VIRTUAL TOOLS, RESULTS OF OWN RESEARCH OR ELABORATIONS. LEARNING SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND IT RESOURCES FOR ANALYSIS AND DESIGN; -PERFORM RESEARCH, UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX TECHNICAL-SCIENTIFIC TEXTS; - CONTINUALLY UPDATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE, USING TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE. |

THE COURSE COVERS LECTURES (3CFU) AND CLASSROOM EXERCISES (2CFU). HOMEWORKING IN GROUP, TECHNICAL VISITS TO SITES OF INTEREST AND "MEET THE EXPERT" DAYS (1 CFU) ARE ALSO SCHEDULED. FREQUENCY IS NOT COMPULSORY. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
THE EVALUATION OF REACHING THE PREFIXED OBJECTIVES WILL CONSIST OF TESTS AT THE END OF THE COURSE: - AN ORAL EXAMINATION (DURATION: ABOUT 30 MINUTES)ARTICULATED IN THREE QUESTIONS TO CHECK THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE OF THE ARGUMENTS DEALT WITH AT LESSON AND DURING EXERCISES. - DISCUSSION (DURATION: ABOUT 10 MINUTES) OF A CASE STUDY PROJECT DEEPENED BY THE STUDENT IN THE FIELD OF RETAINING STRUCTURES WITHIN THE TUTORIALS. THE RESULT OF THE FINAL EVALUATION OF THE STUDENT WILL BE BASED ON A COMPREHENSIVE JUDGMENT THAT TAKES INTO ACCOUNT BOTH THE ORAL (70%) AND DISCUSSION OF THE REPORTS OF THE TUTORIALS (30%). FOR THE PURPOSES OF THE LAUDE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT IT WILL BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT: - THE QUALITY OF EXPOSITION, IN TERMS OF USE OF APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE; - THE ABILITY OF TRANSVERSAL LINKING BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT ARGUMENTS OF THE COURSE AND, WHERE POSSIBLE, WITH OTHER DISCIPLINES; - OF THE AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT PROVEN. |
