The Preventing and Responding to Gender-Based Violence (PaRGeV) laboratory aims to create an interdisciplinary space dedicated to research and action to prevent and combat gender-based violence. Embedded in the tradition of activities carried out by the Department of Political and Social Studies, organized by Professor Giuseppina Cersosimo, the laboratory seeks to promote interdisciplinary and interinstitutional collaboration to address the complex challenges of gender-based violence in an integrated manner. The proposed studies aim to explore and analyze the social impacts of such violence, develop effective prevention strategies, and promote concrete activities aimed at eliminating gender-based violence.

Objectives

The laboratory aims to tackle the challenges related to gender-based violence through targeted and structured action. The key objectives include:

  • Promoting research and knowledge production on gender-based violence, analyzing its causes, dynamics, and consequences.
  • Strengthening dialogue between academic institutions, public bodies, and civil society organizations to ensure an effective and coordinated response to the phenomenon.
  • Encouraging training and awareness initiatives on gender and violence-related issues, fostering lasting cultural change.
  • Developing innovative intervention tools and strategies for the prevention of violence and support for victims.

Activities

The PaRGBV laboratory operates in close collaboration with experts and institutions, including the Italian National Institute of Health, with which a two-year project is currently underway. Its activities focus on exploring and understanding the complex interactions between violence, health, gender, and society, analyzing both short- and long-term effects on women's well-being.

The laboratory’s activities include:

  • Research: development of multidisciplinary projects to examine various dimensions of gender-based violence and its social and health implications.
  • Awareness initiatives: organization of conferences, seminars, workshops, and campaigns to raise awareness and promote respectful behaviors.
  • Scientific events: hosting meetings, conferences, and activities to share research findings and foster dialogue among experts.
  • Report production: drafting research reports to disseminate knowledge and propose intervention strategies.
  • Multidisciplinary brainstorming: co-creation sessions involving researchers from different disciplines to develop innovative solutions.
  • Development of tools and interventions: designing concrete strategies to support victims and promote cultural change.
