Objectives
TEACHING WILL CONCENTRATE ON BUILDING THE SKILLS NECESSARY TO STUDY THE WAYS IN WHICH THE INTERSECTION OF POWER RELATIONS ON THE BASIS OF RACE, GENDER AND CLASS INFLUENCE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF PRODUCTIVE AND REPRODUCTIVE LABOUR WITHIN THE POPULATION. THESE COMPETENCES WILL BE COMPLEMENTED BY THOSE RELATED TO THE STUDY OF PUBLIC POLICIES IN THE FIELD OF MIGRATION, WITH PARTICULAR REGARD TO THE EUROPEAN SCALE, AND THEY WILL ALSO BE ORIENTED TOWARDS UNDERSTANDING THE LINK BETWEEN THESE POLICIES AND THE CHARACTERISTICS OF WORK, PARTICULARLY THAT CARRIED OUT BY IMMIGRANT POPULATIONS.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED THROUGH THE COURSE WILL BE BASED ON THE TRANSFORMATION THAT HAVE CHARACTERIZED THE HUMAN SPACE MOBILITY AND THE LABOUR IN THE CONTEMPORARY HISTORICAL PERIOD, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE WAY IN WHICH MOBILITY AND LABOUR ARE STRUCTURED BY THE INTERTWINING OF RACIAL, GENDER AND CLASS RELATIONS.
KNOWLEDGE WILL NOT BE LIMITED TO THE NATIONAL SCALE BUT WILL BE DEFINED WITH REFERENCE TO THE GLOBAL SCALE, CONSIDERING THE MANNER IN WHICH MIGRATORY AND ECONOMIC MOVEMENTS UNFOLD IN CONTEMPORARY CAPITALIST SOCIETY. IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THESE OBJECTIVES, THE ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF STUDENTS IN THE TRAINING ACTIVITIES WILL BE PROMISED, WITH PROPOSALS FOR EXERCISE AND RESEARCH ACTIVITIES TO BE DEVELOPED DURING THE COURSE.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED DURING THE COURSE WILL ALLOW TO STUDENTS TO:

- PROMOTING THE ABILITY TO PROCESS AND APPLY ANALYSIS ABOUT MIGRATIONS AND MIGRANT LABOUR, WITH SPECIFIC ATTENTION TO INSTITUTIONAL TASKS;
- TO STUDY THE TRANSFORMATION WHICH HAVE CHARACTERIZED MIGRANT LABOUR IN THE POST-FORDIST PERIOD, HIGHLIGHTING IF, HOW AND AT WHICH MAGNITUDE SUCH LABOUR IS NOT SPECIFICALLY TYPICAL OF MIGRANT POPULATION BUT IT CONCERNS INCREASING AREAS OF MANPOWER.
- TO QUESTION THE CONSOLIDATED VISIONS ON THE PROCESSES OF HUMAN MOBILITY;
- TO USE METHODS AND TECHNIQUES OF SOCIAL RESEARCH CONSISTENT WITH THE CRITICAL STUDY OF HUMAN MOBILITY AND LABOR MARKET, WITH SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THE ETHNOGRAPHIC METHOD PLUS THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN INTERNATIONAL DATABASES.

THE COURSE IS FOCUSED ON THE STUDY OF THE LINK BETWEEN HUMAN SPACE MOBILITY AND LABOUR IN MODERNITY AND CAPITALIST CONTEMPORARITY. THE COURSE IS ORGANIZED IN FOUR PARTS.

THE FIRST PART ANALYSES THE LABOUR MARKET OF IMMIGRANTS IN ITALY, WITH SPECIFIC CASES OF STUDY, INCLUDING CARE WORK AND AGRICULTURAL WORK, ALSO STUDYING AVALLONE' AND CINIERO'S BOOKS (14 HOURS)

THE SECOND PART IS CONCENTRATED ON THE RACIAL RELATIONS AND MIGRATION MOVEMENTS, OBSERVED BY THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF ANNALISA FRISINA AND ACHILLE MBEMBE AND PRIMO LEVI ANALYSIS (14 HOURS OF LESSON).

THE THIRD PART STUDIES MIGRATION POLICIES IN ITALY AND THE EUROPEAN UNION BOTH IN HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE AND WITH REFERENCE TO THE MOST RECENT CHANGES AND NEAR FUTURE PERSPECTIVES (6 HOURS).

THE FOURTH PART IS DEVOTED TO CLASSROOM PRESENTATIONS OF THE SHORT ARTICLES WRITTEN BY SOME OF THE ATTENDING STUDENTS (6 HOURS).

ALL PARTS WILL BE DEVELOPED THROUGH BOTH ARTICLES AND STATISTICAL AND ETHNOGRAPHIC DATA FOCUSED ON THE OBSERVED PHENOMENA.

Verification of learning
THE TEST WILL BE ARTICULATED IN TWO PARTS:

- WRITING A SHORT ARTICLE ON A THEME CONCERNED DURING THE COURSE (DIMENSIONS: BETWEEN 10 AND 12 THOUSAND CHARACTERS). THE SUBJECT OF THE SHORT ARTICLE WILL BE AGREED IN ADVANCE WITH THE TEACHER BY E-MAIL. THE FINAL TEXT MUST BE DELIVERED BY EMAIL NO LATER THAN THREE DAYS FROM THE DATE OF THE ORAL TEST.
IN THIS PART WILL BE TESTED:
- THE ABILITY TO BUILD AN ARGUMENT IN THE FORM OF AN ESSAY;
- THE ABILITY TO USE DATA AND ANALYTICAL CATEGORIES IN A SYSTEMATIC WAY.

- AN ORAL TEST, THAT WILL CONSIST OF AN ORAL EXAM THAT PROVIDES FOR THE PRELIMINARY DISCUSSION OF THE WRITTEN PAPER AND AT LEAST TWO QUESTIONS WHOSE TOPICS ARE CHOSEN FROM THOSE LISTED IN THE PROGRAM AND ARE INTENDED TO FILL ANY GAPS MANIFESTED IN THE WRITTEN TEST. THIS PART WILL BE TESTED:
- KNOWLEDGE LEARNED IN THE COURSE;
- THE ABILITY TO LINK DIFFERENT ANALYTICAL CATEGORIES


THE TWO TESTS HAVE THE SAME IRELEVANCE FOR THE FINAL EVALUATION.
