Objectives
LESSONS WILL CONCERN NAPLES (HYGIENIC CONDITIONS, EPIDEMICS, SOCIAL CITIZENS, GOVERNMENT, ECONOMIC CONDITIONS) IN COMPARISON WITH OTHER CITIES. KEY SOURCES FOR STUDYING CITIES INCLUDE TRAVELLERS' DIARIES. VARIOUS LETTERS AND TRAVEL DIARIES WILL BE ILLUSTRATED TO ENRICH OUR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT NAPLES AND THE OTHER CITIES (ESPECIALLY VENICE AND AMSTERDAM).
Prerequisites
IT WOULD BE DESIRABLE IF THE STUDENT HAD A GOOD GENERAL KNOWLEDGE IN THE HISTORICAL FIELD.

THE 36-HOUR COURSE WILL BE DIVIDED INTO HOURS OF LECTURES AND 4 HOURS OF EXERCISES, STARTING WITH NAPLES AND ENDING IN AMSTERDAM AND VENICE.

Teaching Methods
THE LESSONS WILL BE MAINLY FRONTAL; SOME OF THE LESSONS WILL BE LIKE SEMINARS, AROUND THE SOURCES THAT WILL BE PROPOSED, PAGES FROM POLITICAL TREATISES, CHRONICLES AND TRAVEL DIARIES (THE SOURCES WILL BE BROUGHT IN FOR READING BY THE LECTURER AS PART OF THE CLASSROOM WORK).
Verification of learning
DURING THE COURSE THE STUDENTS WILL BE INVITED TO FILL A WRITTEN TEST; THE FINAL MARK WILL BE BASED ON BOTH THE PERFORMANCES: WRITTEN AND ORAL.
