EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES AND SKILLS TO ACQUIRE: TO LEARN THE BASICS OF: 1. BUILDING MATERIALS; ACTIONS ON CONSTRUCTIONS; THE "SEMI-PROBABILISTIC LIMIT STATE METHOD"; 2. STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND DESIGN METHODS FOR SIMPLE REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURES (I.E STATICALLY DETERMINATED AND INDETERMINATED BEAMS, FRAMES AND TRUSSES) UNDER STATIC LOADING. TO LEARN THE METHODS FOR SOLVING RIGID AND ELASTIC FOUNDATION BEAMS ON ELASTIC SOIL. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: TO PROVE TO HAVE UNDERSTOOD ALL THE GIVEN TOPICS AND TO APPLY THEM IN SOLVING SOME TECHNICAL PROBLEMS; TO BE FAMILIAR WITH THE CURRENT BUILDING CODE AND WITH THE DESIGN AND VERIFICATION, BOTH AT THE SERVICE LIMIT STATE (IN THE LINEAR ELASTIC FIELD) AND AT THE ULTIMATE LIMIT STATE (IN THE NON-LINEAR FIELD), OF STRUCTURES WITH SLIGHT SIZE AND COMPLEXITY. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO PROVE TO HAVE ACQUIRED A GOOD DESIGN PRACTICE WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE CASE STUDIES ADDRESSED DURING THE COURSE: DESIGN OF A CONCRETE FLOORING SYSTEM (UP TO THE EXECUTIVE LEVEL); DESIGN OF A 2D RC FRAME. JUDGMENT AUTONOMY: TO BE ABLE TO DEVELOP A CRITICAL REASONING IN SOLVING THE PROPOSED TECHNICAL PROBLEMS. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: TO BE ABLE TO WORK IN TEAM AND TO CLEARLY EXPOSE THE TOPICS ILLUSTRATED DURING THE COURSE. ABILITY TO LEARN: TO BE ABLE TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED TO CASES EVEN DIFFERENT FROM THOSE DISCUSSED DURING THE COURSE, FOR EXAMPLE BY MAKING USE OF OTHER MATERIALS OTHER THAN THOSE PROPOSED. |

Teaching Methods | |

THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, THEORETICAL LESSONS (ABOUT 7 CFU) AND EXERCISES (ABOUT 2 CFU) WILL BE HELD IN THE CLASSROOM DURING THE SCHEDULED TIME FOR THE COURSE. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY; EVEN THOUGH THE REGULATIONS OF THE DEGREE PROGRAM ALLOW THE POSSIBILITY OF BEING ABSENT FOR A LIMITED NUMBER OF HOURS (30%), THE REGULAR ATTENDANCE AT THE COURSE IS ENCOURAGED. THE EXERCISES MAINLY CONSIST IN DEVELOPING TWO PROJECTS: THE FIRST DEALS WITH A RC SLAB; THE SECOND FOCUSES ON A FRAMED RC BUILDING TO BE DESIGNED UNDER GRAVITY LOADS BOTH PROJECTS WILL BE DISCUSSED DURING THE EXAM AND WILL HAVE TO BE ACCOMPANIED BY GRAPHIC DRAWINGS. |

THE ASSESSMENT OF THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES WILL BE DONE THROUGH AN ORAL EXAMINATION THAT EACH STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO KEEP STARTING FROM THE END OF THE COURSE. THE GRADE WILL DEPEND ON THE MATURITY GAINED ON THE COURSE CONTENT, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE QUALITY OF THE ORAL DISCUSSION, THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE POSTULATES AND BASIC LOGIC OF THE DISCIPLINE, THE CAPABILITY OF SOLVING THE MAIN APPLICATION ISSUES AND ACCURACY DEGREE OF THE TWO PROJECTS DEVELOPED DURING THE COURSE. THE GRADE CUM LAUDE WILL REWARD STUDENTS WHO WILL HAVE FULLY SATISFIED ALL THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS. |
