Objectives
INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES AND SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED
TO GET COMPLEMENTARY KNOWLEDGE FOR THE ANALYSIS AND CHECK OF REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURES. ACQUIRING BASIC KNOWLEDGE FOR THE DESIGN OF STEEL AND PRESTRESSED REINFORCED CONCRETE (PRESTRESSED CONCRETE) STRUCTURES.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING.
TO KNOW THE FUNDAMENTALS OF THE DESIGN OF STEEL AND PRESTRESSED CONCRETE STRUCTURES. TO COMPLEMENT THE KNOWLEDGE FOR THE DESIGN OF REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURES. TO LEARN ABOUT THE METHODS FOR THE CHECK OF STEEL AND PRESTRESSED CONCRETE STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS ACCORDING TO THE SEMI-PROBABILISTIC LIMIT STATE METHOD.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING.
DESIGNING AND CHECKING STEEL MEMBERS AND JOINTS (WELDED OR BOLTED), TO SIZE PRESTRESSED CONCRETE ELEMENTS AND TO CHECK REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS (ONE- OR TWO-DIMENSIONAL) ACCORDING TO THE SEMI-PROBABILISTIC LIMIT STATE METHOD. KNOWING HOW TO DESIGN, CHECK AND SKETCH THE STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS OF A METAL INDUSTRIAL BUILDING. KNOWING HOW TO DESIGN A REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURAL ELEMENT.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT.
ABILITY TO CRITICALLY EXAMINE THE RESULTS OF THE ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF REINFORCED CONCRETE, PRESTRESSED CONCRETE AND STEEL STRUCTURES.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
BEING ABLE TO WORK IN GROUP AND ORALLY PRESENT ABOUT THE TOPICS RELATED TO THE ABOVE-MENTIONED TYPES OF STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS AND CONSTRUCTION SYSTEMS.

LEARNING SKILLS
BEING ABLE TO EXTEND THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED TO STRUCTURAL SITUATIONS DIFFERENT FROM THAN THOSE EXAMINED DURING THE COURSE.
Prerequisites
THE EFFECTIVE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE EXPECTED LEARNING OBJECTIVES REQUIRES A SOUND KNOWLEDGE OF THE FUNDAMENTALS OF STRUCTURAL MECHANICS, WHICH IS GENERALLY ACQUIRED AT THE UNDERGRADUATE LEVEL. THEREFORE, NO FORMAL PREREQUISITES ARE NEEDED.

2. THEORY AND DESIGN OF PRE-STRESSED CONCRETE MEMBERS (THEORY: 10 HOURS; EXERCISES: 10 HOURS);
3. FURTHER TOPICS ABOUT THE LIMIT STATES DESIGN OF REINFORCED CONCRETE MEMBERS (THEORY: 20 HOURS; EXERCISES: 10 HOURS);
4. ELASTIC ANALYSIS OF THIN PLATES, WITH EMPHASIS ON RC ONES (THEORY: 6 HOURS; EXERCISES: 4 HOURS).
Teaching Methods
TEACHING IS DEVELOPED BY MEANS OF LESSONS ON THEORY, EXERCISES IN THE CLASSROOM AND PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES IN LABORATORY. THE EXERCISES IN THE CLASSROOM CONSIST ON THE APPLICATION OF THE STUDIED TOPICS AND ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF TWO PROJECTS..
Verification of learning
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE COURSE GOALS WILL BE VERIFIED BY MEANS OF AN ORAL EXAM WHICH CONSISTS ON:
A) DISCUSSION OF THE EXERCISES WORKED OUT BY THE STUDENT DURING THE COURSE;
B) DISCUSSION OF TOPICS COVERED IN THE LESSONS.
THE DURATION OF THE ORAL EXAM IS APPROXIMATELY 45 MINS
FOR THE EXCELLENCE THE FOLLOWING WILL BE CONSIDERED:
