Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PRESENT STUDENTS WITH THE MAIN APPLICATIONS FOR THE DESIGN, PROCESSING AND STORAGE OF DATA, AS WELL AS TO TEST THOSE SOFTWARE METHODOLOGIES THAT CAN PROVIDE ADDED VALUE TO THE PROCESSES THAT CHARACTERIZE THE NORMAL WORKFLOWS IN THE HUMANITIES. IN PARTICULAR, THE DIFFERENT APPROACHES OF NATURAL LANGUAGE PROCESSING WILL BE REPRESENTED, WHICH ARE ABLE TO ALLOW THE AUTOMATION OF PROCESSES SUCH AS AUTOMATIC CLASSIFICATION OF TEXTS, CONSTRUCTION OF ANNOTATED LEXICONS, SUPPORT FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSLATION OF TEXTUAL CONTENT AND THE EXTRACTION OF SEMANTIC INFORMATION FROM SYNTACTIC CONTENT.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO :
KNOW THE MAIN METHODOLOGIES AND ADVANCED TECHNIQUES FOR THE COLLECTION, ANALYSIS AND MANAGEMENT OF LINGUISTIC DATA, WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO DATABASES;
KNOW THE USE OF COMPUTER AND MULTIMEDIA TOOLS, AS WELL AS DOCUMENTARY SOURCES, FOR THE TRANSFER OF KNOWLEDGE;
KNOW THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ENVIRONMENTS USED IN THE PRODUCTION OF NATIVE DIGITAL DOCUMENTATION AND/OR CONVERTED FROM ANALOG TO DIGITAL;

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
USE THE MAIN COMPUTER TOOLS IN THE SPECIFIC AREAS OF COMPETENCE;
USE THE MOST WIDESPREAD AND COMMON LABELLING SYSTEMS OF LINGUISTIC UNITS AT ALL LEVELS OF ANALYSIS AND THE COMPUTER TOOLS DEDICATED TO THEM;
MANAGE AND QUERY LINGUISTIC DATABASES, ELECTRONIC DICTIONARIES, FREQUENCY LEXICONS, AND OBTAIN DATA FROM THEM FOR QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS AND INTERLINGUAL COMPARISONS;

MAKING JUDGEMENTS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
FILTER AND SIFT THE DATA IN HIS POSSESSION AND TO ELABORATE REFLECTIONS AND CRITICAL CONSIDERATIONS IN THE DIFFERENT AREAS OF HIS COMPETENCE;
FORMULATE HIS/HER OWN EVALUATION AND/OR JUDGMENT ON THE BASIS OF THE INTERPRETATION OF THE INFORMATION AVAILABLE IN THE FIELD OF COMPUTER SCIENCE AND COMPUTERS.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY THE NEW INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY METHODOLOGIES RELATED TO ARCHIVING AND DIGITIZATION SYSTEMS OF DOCUMENTS, BOTH IN THE FIELD OF CULTURAL HERITAGE AND IN THE BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT

LEARNING SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO USE THE MAIN COMPUTER TOOLS IN THE SPECIFIC AREAS OF COMPETENCE (SKILLS RELATED TO THE NEW LANGUAGES OF COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION).

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES THEORETICAL LESSONS AND CLASSROOM EXERCISES. DURING THE ASSISTED CLASSROOM EXERCISES, STUDENTS WILL BE ASKED TO DEVELOP, INDEPENDENTLY OR IN SMALL GROUPS, SUMMARY EXERCISES ON THE THEORETICAL ARGUMENTS PREVIOUSLY INTRODUCED.

THE METHOD OF RESOLUTION CONSISTS IN THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE PROBLEM, IN THE PLANNING OF THE SOLUTION, AND FINALLY IN THE RESOLUTION. THIS LAST PHASE PROMOTES THE ABILITY TO EVALUATE THE REASONABLENESS OF THE ANSWER AND TO VERIFY THE COHERENCE WITH THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF COMPUTER SCIENCE.
Verification of learning
THE EVALUATION OF THE STUDENTS WILL BE DECLINED THROUGH THE FOLLOWING PHASES:
- EVALUATION OF THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO DESIGN AND IMPLEMENT DATABASES AND/OR SOFTWARE FUNCTIONS FOR NLP: STUDENTS WILL BE DIVIDED INTO WORKING GROUPS, CONSISTING OF AT MOST THREE PEOPLE, AND WILL DOCUMENT AND DEVELOP, IN ALL ITS PHASES, THE DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ARTIFACT.
- EVALUATION OF THE ACQUISITION BY THE STUDENT OF THE THEORETICAL ARGUMENTS: THE STUDENT, DOWNSTREAM OF THE DELIVERY OF THE PROJECT, WILL HAVE TO SHOW THAT HE/SHE HAS ACQUIRED SKILLS ON THEORETICAL ARGUMENTS THROUGH A WRITTEN TEST CONSISTING OF MULTIPLE CHOICE CLOSED QUESTIONS AND AN ORAL TEST IN WHICH THE PROJECT WILL BE DISCUSSED.

IT WILL BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT
- THE QUALITY OF THE EXPOSITION, IN TERMS OF USE OF APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE
- THE ABILITY TO CROSS-REFERENCE THE VARIOUS TOPICS OF THE COURSE AND, WHERE POSSIBLE, WITH OTHER DISCIPLINES
- THE AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT DEMONSTRATED
THE OVERALL ASSESSMENT IS OBTAINED, AS A RULE, AS THE AVERAGE OF THE WRITTEN TEST AND THE ORAL TEST.
