Objectives
The course aims to introduce students to the main information technology methodologies that can be used to support activities typical of the humanities, that is, techniques that can provide added value to the normal workflows found in the humanities
The student will learn about
the main methodologies and advanced techniques for the collection, analysis and management of linguistic data, with particular attention to databases;
the computer environments used in natural language processing capable of enabling the automation of processes such as, for example, the automatic classification of texts, the construction of annotated lexicons, the support of machine translation of textual content, and the extraction of semantic information from syntactic content.
natural language processing techniques based on statistical-probabilistic approaches and tools for managing and organizing information such as xml (markup metalanguage), which enables the definition and control of the meaning of elements contained in a document or text
the main methodologies and technologies for the production and enjoyment of multimedia content in digital format.

The student will be able to
use the main computer tools in the specific areas of expertise;
use the most popular and common language unit labeling systems at all levels of analysis and the computer tools dedicated to them;
master the main techniques for automatic natural language processing. in particular, depending on the problems to be addressed they will be able to select the right methodologies to apply.
understand the functional parameters associated with multimedia productions and to use the main applications on the market that support the process of creating multimedia artifacts
The student will be able to
apply new information technology methodologies related to document archiving and digitization systems, both in the field of cultural heritage and in the business environment
The student will be able to
filter and sift the data in his/her possession and to elaborate critical reflections and considerations in the different areas of his/her competence;
formulate his/her own evaluation and/or judgment based on the interpretation of information available in the field of computer science and electronic computers
The student will be able to
use the main computer tools in the specific areas of competence (skills related to the new languages of communication and information).
