THIS COURSE REPRESENTS ONE OF THE FIRST APPROACH TO CLINICAL SPECIALTIES IN THE CURRICULUM OF THE STUDENT. THE MAIN OBJECTIVE IS TO DEVELOP SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE ON THE CLINICAL COURSE, DIAGNOSIS, BASIC TREATMENT AND GLOBAL MANAGEMENT OF PATIENTS WITH ALLERGIC DISORDERS, AUTOIMMUNE AND RHEUMATOLOGIC DISEASES AND THE MAJOR CUTANEOUS DISEASES. AN INTEGRATED APPROACH TO THE THREE SPECIALTIES IS EMPHASIZED BY THE FUNDAMENTAL SHARING OF PATHOGENETIC MECHANISMS. AT THE COMPLETION OF THE MODULE THE STUDENT SHALL: - POSSESS KNOWLEDGE OF THE PATHOPHYSIOLOGICAL BASES OF ALLERGIC AND AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES AND OF PRIMARY AND SECONDARY IMMUNE DEFICIENCIES - POSSESS KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN CLINICAL MANIFESTATIONS AND THE BASIC ELEMENTS OF THE DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC MANAGEMENT OF THE PATIENT WITH IMMUNE-MEDIATED CONDITIONS KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPICS LISTED IN THE COURSE PROGRAM AND ACQUIREMENT OF THE APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY USED IN CLINICAL SETTINGS FOR THE MEDICAL BRANCHES INCLUDED IN THE INTEGRATED COURSE; UNDERSTANDING OF THE CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR BASIS OF IMMUNE RESPONSE’S REGULATION AND OF THEIR ALTERATIONS IN ALLERGIC AND AUTOIMMUNE DISORDERS AND IMMUNODEFICIENCIES; SIMILAR REQUIREMENTS FOR DERMATOLOGICAL AND RHEUMATOLOGICAL DISEASES; KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF HOW TO COLLECT A DISEASE-SPECIFIC MEDICAL HISTORY, TO REQUEST/INTERPRET THE RELATED LABORATORY AND INSTRUMENTAL DIAGNOSTICS TO SET UP APPROPRIATE THERAPIES ALSO IN RELATION TO DIFFERENT STAGES OF LIFE AND OF GENDER MEDICINE. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE STUDENT WILL BE REQUIRED TO DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE IN THE FOLLOWING INSTANCES: 1) IDENTIFY THE UNDERLYING IMMUNE ALTERATIONS CAUSING ALLERGIC DISEASES, IMMUNE-MEDIATED DISEASES AND IMMUNODEFICIENCY AS WELL AS RHEUMATIC AND DERMATOLOGICAL PATHOLOGIES, ALSO IN RELATION TO DIFFERENT STAGES OF LIFE AND OF GENDER MEDICINE; 2) LEAD A CORRECT ANAMNESIS AND PHYSICAL EXAM ACCORDING TO CLINICAL PRESENTATIONS; 3) RECOGNIZE, DIAGNOSE AND EVALUATE THE MAIN SYMPTOMS AND CLINICAL PRESENTATIONS; 4) IDENTIFY THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES AND THEIR RATIONALE; 5) TRANSLATE THE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE DISEASES STUDIED IN EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION WITH PATIENTS AND MEDICAL STAFF. MAKING JUDGEMENTS: THE STUDENT SHALL ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO IMPROVE HIS/HER KNOWLEDGE THROUGH THE STUDY OF EXPERIMENTAL SYSTEMS AND COMPLEX CLINICAL CASES IN ORDER TO DEVELOP CRITICAL THINKING AND INDEPENDENT CLINICAL JUDGMENT COMMUNICATION SKILLS: THE STUDENT SHALL DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO EXPLAIN, IN SIMPLE, TERMINOLOGICALLY APPROPRIATE AND EXHAUSTIVE TERMS, THE ACQUIRED NOTIONS AND TERMINOLOGY LEARNING SKILLS: ON THE BASIS OF KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED DURING THE MODULE AND WITH INDIVIDUAL STUDY, THE STUDENT SHALL EXHIBIT THE ABILITY TO UPDATE HER/HIS KNOWLEDGE BY READING AND UNDERSTANDING SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATIONS RELATED TO ALLERGY AND CLINICAL IMMUNOLOGY, DERMATOLOGY AND RHEUMATOLOGY |

THE EXAM CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN TEST WITH THIRTY MULTIPLE-CHOICE ALLERGY AND CLINICAL IMMUNOLOGY QUESTIONS, FIFTEEN RHEUMATOLOGY QUESTIONS, AND FIFTEEN DERMATOLOGY QUESTIONS, FOLLOWED BY AN ORAL EXAMINATION FOR STUDENTS PASSING THE WRITTEN TEST, AIMED AT VERIFYING THEIR COMPREHENSION OF THE TOPICS LEARNED. PASSING THE WRITTEN TEST REQUIRES AT LEAST EIGHTEEN/THIRTY OR NINE/FIFTEEN CORRECT ANSWERS FOR EACH OF THE MODULES OF THE COURSE. THE EXAM GRADE IS EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS. COLLEGIAL EVALUATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE EXAM COMMISSION. |
