THE INTEGRATED COURSE OF "DENTAL MATERIALS AND ODONTOSTOMATOLOGICAL AND LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIES" IS STRUCTURED INTO FOUR INTEGRATED MODULES TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH A CRITICAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE PHYSICAL, TECHNOLOGICAL AND APPLICATIVE FOUNDATIONS NECESSARY TO UNDERSTAND THE ROLE AND BEHAVIOUR OF DENTAL MATERIALS AND THE FUNCTIONING OF MAJOR ODONTOSTOMATOLOGICAL TECHNOLOGIES BASED ON THEM, BOTH IN A CLINICAL AND LABORATORY CONTEXT. AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL ACQUIRE: •KNOWLEDGE OF THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF BIOMECHANICS AND PROBLEMS INHERENT IN THE STRUCTURE OF MATTER AND THE PRINCIPLES GOVERNING ITS PHYSICAL TRANSFORMATIONS; •KNOWLEDGE OF CLINICAL-PROSTHETIC AND LABORATORY MATERIALS AND TECHNOLOGIES RELATED TO THE DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF FIXED, REMOVABLE, IMPLANTED PROSTHESIS DEVICES, MADE WITH DIRECT AND INDIRECT METHODS, AIMED AT PROPHYLAXIS, RESTORATION AND PROSTHESIS. •KNOWLEDGE OF THE VARIOUS CATEGORIES OF PRODUCTS, INCLUDING PRODUCTS FOR ORAL PREVENTION AND ORAL HYGIENE, IN THEIR CLASSIFICATIONS, PHYSICAL, CHEMICAL, BIOLOGICAL, AND POSSIBLY AESTHETIC CHARACTERISTICS. KNOWLEDGE OF THE MECHANISMS UNDERLYING THEIR RATIONAL MANIPULATION, THE OPTIMAL WAYS OF CONSERVING THEM AND THE IMPORTANCE OF THEIR CORRESPONDENCE TO THE INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS AND THE MEDICAL DEVICES DIRECTIVES. ABILITY TO SUPPORT CONVERSATIONS ON TOPICS RELATED TO THE CORE ASPECTS OF THE DISCIPLINE BY USING APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC TERMINOLOGY, AND THE TOOLS OF MATHEMATICAL AND GRAPHIC REPRESENTATION OF THE MAIN PHENOMENA DESCRIBED. |

Teaching Methods | |

TEACHING WILL CONSIST OF THEORETICAL CLASSROOM LECTURES WITH THE SUPPORT OF ELECTRONIC PRESENTATIONS AND THEORETICAL-PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES (INCLUDING LABORATORY). DURING THE HOURS OF THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL ACTIVITY, THE STUDENT PROPOSES TO CARRY OUT THE NECESSARY MANOEUVRES FOR THE USE OF MATERIALS OF MORE GENERAL USE IN DENTAL PRACTICE. THE GENERAL APPROACH TO SOLVING THE PROBLEMATIC ISSUES IS TO UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM, TO PLAN THE SOLUTION, AND FINALLY TO THE RESOLUTION. THIS LAST STAGE PROMOTES THE HABIT OF EVALUATING THE REASONABLENESS OF THE RESPONSE AND VERIFYING CONSISTENCY WITH THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES PRESENTED DURING THE THEORETICAL LESSONS. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
THE EXAM TEST IS INTENDED TO ASSESS BY AN INTERVIEW THE STUDENT'S KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE BASICS OF BIOMECHANICS AND DENTAL MATERIALS. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE PROCEDURES AND THEIR LIMITS AND THE PROPER USE OF THE TECHNIQUES AND MATERIALS NOWADAYS AVAILABLE ARE MADE KNOWN IN ORDER TO MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR THE PRACTITIONER TO CARRY OUT THE PROPER AND CORRECT APPLICATION OF PROSTHETIC DEVICES IN THE LIGHT OF THE CORRECT APPLICATION OF DIRECTIVE 93/42 EEC - DL 46/97 AND LATER ONES. THEY ALSO NEED TO BE CLEAR ABOUT THE DISTINCT PROFESSIONAL PROFILES OF DENTAL TECHNICIAN AND THE GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH THE DENTIST. THE GRADE, EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS EVENTUALLY WITH PRAISE, WILL DEPEND ON THE ACQUIRED MATURITY ON THE CONTENTS OF THE COURSE. FOR THE PRAISE, IT WILL BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT THE QUALITY OF THE EXPOSITION, IN TERMS OF THE APPROPRIATE USAGE OF SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE, AND OF THE AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT BEING DEMONSTRATED. |
