GENERAL AIM
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THEMATIC INSIGHTS INTO AUTHORS, PHASES, TRADITIONS AND FORMS OF ANCIENT AND LATE ANCIENT PHILOSOPHICAL THOUGHT
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT:
- WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO UNDERSTAND SOME FUNDAMENTAL PHILOSOPHICAL STRATEGIES THAT CHARACTERIZE THE NATURE OF ANCIENT THOUGHT.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- COMPARE IN DETAIL DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES OF ANCIENT PHILOSOPHICAL REFLECTION;
- ELABORATE RESEARCH AND REFLECTIONS ON AUTHORS, CURRENTS AND TRADITIONS OF ANCIENT THOUGHT
AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- FURTHER EXPAND THEIR CRITICAL AND ANALYTICAL SKILLS;
- IDENTIFY AND SELECT TEXTUAL SOURCES IN RELATION TO SPECIFIC RESEARCH AND INVESTIGATION THEMES.

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- TO COMMUNICATE IN DEPTH, THROUGH TEXTS OR VIRTUAL TOOLS, THE RESULTS OF THEIR OWN RESEARCH OR ELABORATIONS.

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX TEXTS OF VARIOUS KINDS;
- PROCEED TO DEEPEN AND CONTINUALLY UPDATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE, USING THE TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE.

THE COURSE AIMS TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM OF THE NOTION OF PRINCIPLE IN THE NEO-PLATONIC TRADITION, FROM PLOTINUS TO DAMASCIUS.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE CONSISTS OF 30 HOURS OF FRONT LESSONS, WHICH WILL ALSO INCLUDE READING OF TEXTS IN TRANSLATION WITH EXEGETICAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL COMMENT.
Verification of learning
THE EXAM CONSISTS OF AN ORAL EXAMINATION TO ASSESS THE STUDENT'S PREPARATION AND ABILITY TO USE THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED. THE EXAM WILL ASSESS THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE CLEARLY AND PRECISELY THE CONTENT AND METHODOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED AND HIS/HER ABILITY TO ANALYTICALLY AND CRITICALLY EVALUATE THE TEXTS STUDIED.
THE FINAL GRADE IS AWARDED IN THIRTIETHS, WITH POSSIBLE LAUDE, IF THE CANDIDATE DEMONSTRATES SIGNIFICANT MASTERY OF THE THEORETICAL CONTENT AND THE ABILITY TO PRESENT THE ARGUMENTS WITH CONSIDERABLE LANGUAGE PROPERTY AND AUTONOMOUS ELABORATION SKILLS EVEN IN CONTEXTS OTHER THAN THOSE PROPOSED BY THE PROFESSOR.
