LEARNING GOALS: THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS TO DEAL IN DETAIL WITH THE STUDY OF AUTHORS, PHASES, TRADITIONS AND FORMS OF ANCIENT PHILOSOPHICAL THOUGHT. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: — TO KNOW SOME FUNDAMENTAL THEMES OF ANCIENT PHILOSOPHY THROUGH COMPARISON WITH PRIMARY TEXTS AND SOURCES AND REFERENCE SCIENTIFIC BIBLIOGRAPHY; — TO UNDERSTAND SPECIFIC ASPECTS OF ANCIENT PHILOSOPHICAL THOUGHT. SKILLS TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: —TO DEAL WITH THE READING OF TEXTS BY ANCIENT AUTHORS, PLACING THEM IN THEIR CORRECT HISTORICAL, CULTURAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL CONTEXT. —TO UNDERSTAND SPECIFIC ASPECTS OF ANCIENT PHILOSOPHICAL THOUGHT. |

THE SUBJECT OF THE COURSE WILL BE THE HISTORY OF THE POST-PLOTINIAN NEOPLATONIC PHILOSOPHICAL TRADITION. THE ISSUES AND THE ERMENEUTICAL THEORETICAL STRATEGIES ADOPTED, IN PARTICULAR, WITHIN THE PHILOSOPHICAL REFLECTION OF IAMBLICHUS (4 H), JULIAN THE EMPEROR (2 H), PROCLUS (10 H), DAMASCIUS (8 H) AND IN THE CHRISTIAN NEOPLATONISM OF PSEUDO-DIONYSIUS THE AREOPAGITE (6 H) WILL BE CONSIDERED. |

THE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF AN INTERVIEW, AIMED AT TESTING THE STUDENT'S PREPARATION AND ABILITY TO USE SUBJECT-SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE IN THE FIELD OF EXEGESIS OF THE GREEK PHILOSOPHICAL TEXT. DURING THE EXAMINATION, THE APTITUDE TO CLEARLY AND UNAMBIGUOUSLY COMMUNICATE THE ACQUIRED CONTENT AND METHODOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE WILL BE EVALUATED. THE MINIMUM EVALUATION LEVEL IS ASSIGNED WHEN THE STUDENT SHOWS A FRAGMENTARY AND PARTIAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPICS ADDRESSED OR REVEALS A LIMITED ABILITY TO LINK THE TOPICS TOGETHER. THE HIGHEST EVALUATION GRADE IS ATTRIBUTED WHEN THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES COMPLETE AND IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONTENT AND HIGHLIGHTS HIS OR HER ABILITY TO LINK TOGETHER THE DIFFERENT THEMES ADDRESSED IN THE COURSE. PARTICULAR EMPHASIS IS GIVEN TO THE STUDENT'S PROPERTY OF LANGUAGE AND CAPACITY FOR INDEPENDENT CRITICAL PROCESSING OF THE ISSUES EXAMINED. THE FINAL MARK IS EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS. THE EXAMINATION IS DEEMED PASSED IF THE OVERALL MARK IS GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO 18. |
