LEARNING GOALS: THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS TO DEAL IN DETAIL WITH THE STUDY OF AUTHORS, PHASES, TRADITIONS AND FORMS OF ANCIENT PHILOSOPHICAL THOUGHT. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: —TO UNDERSTAND SOME FUNDAMENTAL THEMES OF ANCIENT PHILOSOPHY THROUGH THE COMPARISON WITH TEXTS AND PRIMARY SOURCES AND WITH THE SCIENTIFIC BIBLIOGRAPHY OF REFERENCE; —TO DEEPEN KNOWLEDGE OF SPECIFIC ASPECTS OF ANCIENT THOUGHT. SKILLS TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: —TO TACKLE THE READING OF TEXTS BY ANCIENT AUTHORS BY PLACING THEM IN THE CORRECT HISTORICAL-CULTURAL AS WELL AS PHILOSOPHICAL CONTEXT —TO DEVELOP AUTONOMOUS REFLECTIONS BASED ON COMPARISON WITH TEXTS. |

THE COURSE AIMS TO EXAMINE PLATO'S POLITICAL THOUGHT, CONSIDERING THE DIALOGUES IN WHICH THIS THEME IS ADDRESSED IN A BROAD AND SPECIFIC MANNER: IN PARTICULAR ‘REPUBLIC’ AND ‘LAWS’ (4 H FRONTAL LESSON TO INTRODUCE PLATO'S THOUGHT; 26 H FRONTAL LESSON SPECIFICALLY DEDICATED TO PLATO'S POLITICAL THOUGHT) |

THE TEACHING CONSISTS OF 30 HOURS OF FRONTAL LESSONS, WHICH WILL ALSO INCLUDE THE READING OF TEXTS IN TRANSLATION WITH EXEGETICAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL COMMENTARY. |

THE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF AN INTERVIEW, AIMED AT TESTING THE STUDENT'S PREPARATION AND ABILITY TO USE SUBJECT-SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE IN THE FIELD OF EXEGESIS OF THE GREEK PHILOSOPHICAL TEXT. DURING THE EXAMINATION, THE APTITUDE TO CLEARLY AND UNAMBIGUOUSLY COMMUNICATE THE ACQUIRED CONTENT AND METHODOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE WILL BE EVALUATED. THE MINIMUM EVALUATION LEVEL IS ASSIGNED WHEN THE STUDENT SHOWS A FRAGMENTARY AND PARTIAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPICS ADDRESSED OR REVEALS A LIMITED ABILITY TO LINK THE TOPICS TOGETHER. THE HIGHEST EVALUATION GRADE IS ATTRIBUTED WHEN THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES COMPLETE AND IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONTENT AND HIGHLIGHTS HIS OR HER ABILITY TO LINK TOGETHER THE DIFFERENT THEMES ADDRESSED IN THE COURSE. PARTICULAR EMPHASIS IS GIVEN TO THE STUDENT'S PROPERTY OF LANGUAGE AND CAPACITY FOR INDEPENDENT CRITICAL PROCESSING OF THE ISSUES EXAMINED. THE FINAL MARK IS EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS. THE EXAMINATION IS DEEMED PASSED IF THE OVERALL MARK IS GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO 18. |
