GENERAL OBJECTIVE: THE COURSE AIMS TO PREPARE FOR THE STUDY OF THE HISTORY OF ANCIENT PHILOSOPHY BY ALSO PROVIDING THE BASIS FOR METHODOLOGICAL AND TEXTUAL REFERENCE. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE STUDENT: - WILL KNOW SOME FUNDAMENTAL DEVELOPMENTS IN THE HISTORY OF ANCIENT PHILOSOPHICAL THOUGHT ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - EXAMINE AND COMPARE ANCIENT PHILOSOPHICAL AUTHORS AND TRADITIONS - ELABORATE ORIGINAL REFLECTIONS ON ISSUES RELATED TO THE HISTORY OF ANCIENT PHILOSOPHY AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT: THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - EVALUATE THE CRITICAL LITERATURE. - SELECT ANCIENT PHILOSOPHICAL TEXTS BASED ON THE SPECIFIC FIELD OF INTEREST. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - REPRESENT AND COMMUNICATE, THROUGH TEXTS OR EVEN VIRTUAL TOOLS, THE RESULTS OF RESEARCH OR OWN ELABORATIONS. LEARNING ABILITY: THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND COMPUTER ANALYSIS AND ARCHIVING RESOURCES; - CARRY OUT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES, UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX TEXTS, OF A PUBLICISTIC OR LITERARY NATURE; - PROCEED WITH THE CONTINUOUS UPDATING OF HIS/HER KNOWLEDGE, USING TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE. |

THE EXAM CONSISTS OF AN ORAL EXAMINATION TO VERIFY THE STUDENT'S PREPARATION AND SUITABILITY TO USE THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED. THE ABILITY TO EXPOSE THE ISSUES ADDRESSED IN THE COURSE IN AN ARTICULATED WAY, ALSO WITH TEXTUAL REFERENCES, WILL BE ASSESSED AS WELL. THE FINAL GRADE IS AWARDED IN THIRTIETHS, WITH POSSIBLE LAUDE, IF THE CANDIDATE DEMONSTRATES SIGNIFICANT MASTERY OF THE THEORETICAL CONTENT AND THE ABILITY TO PRESENT THE ARGUMENTS WITH CONSIDERABLE LANGUAGE PROPERTY AND AUTONOMOUS ELABORATION SKILLS EVEN IN CONTEXTS OTHER THAN THOSE PROPOSED BY THE PROFESSOR. |
