Objectives
GENERAL GOAL: STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO LEARN THAT THE ARCHITECTURAL PROJECT IS CONSTITUTED AS A SPATIAL QUESTION; TO ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO READ AND UNDERSTAND SPACES IN RELATION TO USE, TO THEIR RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE HUMAN BODY, AND TO THE PATHS FRAME; TO ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO COMPOSE SPATIAL SEQUENCES; TO ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO CONTROL SIMPLE FUNCTIONAL CHARACTERIZATION PROJECTS; TO ACQUIRE SKILLS IN WORKING THROUGH GEOMETRIC AND PROPORTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS; TO ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO REPRESENT SPATIAL SOLUTIONS THROUGH THE USE OF DRAWINGS AND MODELS.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: KNOWING REFERENCE PROJECTS IN RELATION TO THE CONSIDERED SPATIAL THEMES AND ISSUES.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: KNOWING HOW TO DESCRIBE AND REPRESENT SPATIAL SOLUTIONS THROUGH BASIC DRAWINGS (PLANS / SECTIONS / PLANS) AND MODELS.
JUDGMENT AUTONOMY: KNOWING HOW TO CONTROL SCALE AND PROPORTION RATIOS.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: KNOWING HOW TO WORK IN A TEAM AND ORALLY AND GRAPHICALLY EXHIBIT AND DISCUSS ARCHITECTURAL SOLUTIONS.
ABILITY TO LEARN: KNOWING HOW TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND BEING ABLE TO LEARN INDEPENDENTELY ON THE BASIS OF PROJECTS EXPERIMENTS CARRIED OUT.
Prerequisites
A BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE AND ARCHITECTURAL DRAWING AND SURVEY. IT IS ALSO VERY USEFUL THAT STUDENTS HAVE A BROAD GENERAL CULTURE, IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND AND DEEPEN THE LINKS BETWEEN THE ARCHITECTURE AND OTHER ARTS (LITERATURE, VISUAL ARTS AND PLASTIC, MUSIC, PHOTOGRAPHY, CINEMA) AND OTHER SOCIAL PHENOMENA.
PROPEDEUTICITY: ARCHITECTURAL DRAWING I.
Contents
DURING THE LABORATORY STUDENTS WILL WORK AT THE DESIGN PROJECT ACCORDING WITH THE RECEIVED GUIDELINES AND UNDER THE TEACHER'S GUIDE; WORK WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY REVIEWS.
THE COURSE IS DIVIDED IN TWO DIFFERENT PARTS - EACH COINCIDENT WITH A SEMESTER - BUT STRICTLY INTEGRATED ONE WITH EACH OTHER.
THE FIRST PART - WHICH CORRESPONDS TO 6 ECTS - REGARDS:
• READING ARCHITECTURE (1 ECTS): 4 HOURS OF LECTURES / 6 HOURS OF DESIGN STUDIO
• INTRODUCTION TO ARCHITECTURE FROM THE VISUAL AND THERORETICAL POINTS OF VIEWS (1 ECTS): 4 HOURS OF LECTURES / 6 HOURS OF DESIGN STUDIO
• THEORETICAL INVESTIGATIONS ON THE ARCHITECTURE DESIGN PROJECT (1 ECTS)
• HABITING SPACE (1 ECTS): 4 HOURS OF LECTURES / 6 HOURS OF DESIGN STUDIO
• THE CREATIVE PROCESS (1 ECTS): 4 HOURS OF LECTURES / 6 HOURS OF DESIGN STUDIO
• FROM THE BODY TO THE INHABITED SPACE (1 ECTS): DESIGN EXPERIMENTATIONS: 4 HOURS OF LECTURES / 6 HOURS OF DESIGN STUDIO

THE SECOND PART - WHICH CORRESPONDS TO 6 ECTS - REGARDS:
• THE SPACE OF ARCHITECTURE: THEORETICAL AND INTERPRETATIVE PROBLEMS, INTRODUCTION TO EXPERIMENTATION (1 ECTS): 4 HOURS OF LECTURES / 6 HOURS OF DESIGN STUDIO
• READING OF PROJECTS (FROM HISTORY, FROM THE MODERN AND FROM THE CONTEMPORARY TIME) WITH THE AIM OF INTERPRETING THE SPATIAL RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE SCALE OF THE BODY AND THAT OF THE SPACES (1 ECTS): 4 HOURS OF LECTURES / 6 HOURS OF DESIGN STUDIO
• EXTRAPOLATION, THROUGH A WORK OF DECONSTRUCTION, OF SOME SPATIAL SOLUTIONS OF THE CHOOSEN PROJECTS, IDENTIFYING THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN SURFACES, BETWEEN VOLUMES AND VOIDS AND THROUGH THE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE HUMAN BODY (1 ECTS): 4 HOURS OF LECTURES / 6 HOURS OF DESIGN STUDIO
• GENERATION OF NEW SPACES, THROUGH A WORK OF MANIPULATION OF THE ELABORATED MODELS (1 ECTS): 4 HOURS OF LECTURES / 6 HOURS OF DESIGN STUDIO
• DEFINITION OF SPACES IN RELATION TO USES AND IN RELATION TO A SPECIFIC SITE (1 ECTS): 4 HOURS OF LECTURES / 6 HOURS OF DESIGN STUDIO
• DEVELOPMENT OF THE PROJECT BY MEANS OF DRAWINGS AND SOLUTIONS WITH DIFFERENTIATED SCALES (1 ECTS): 4 HOURS OF LECTURES / 6 HOURS OF DESIGN STUDIO
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE AWARDS 12 ECTS DIVIDED INTO 4 ECTS OF THEORETICAL REFLECTIONS THROUGH LECTURES AND SEMINARS AND 8 ECTS OF LABORATORY.
THE DIDACTIC WORK WILL FOLLOW A NO-LINEAR PROCESS BASED ON A SERIES OF DESIGN STEPS, STUDIED TO GUIDE THE STUDENTS TO THE DESIGN DEVELOPMENT AND WHICH WILL GIVE OPPORTUNITIES OF REFLECTION AND EXPERIMENTATION.
THE LECTURES WILL PROVIDE THE USEFUL REFERENCES TO THE EXPERIMENTAL WORK DEVELOPED DURING THE DESIGN LABORATORY.
THE STUDIO-COURSE IS BASED ON AN EXTENSIVE USE OF MODELS IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND SPACE IN THE 3 DIMENSIONS AND THEN ON A WORK THROUGH DRAWINGS, INITIALLY WITH THE SECTION AND LATER WITH THE PLAN.
A SPECIFIC PROJECT PROGRAM WILL BE STUDIED AT EACH SEMESTER. AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER THE STUDENTS WILL BE ASSESSED ON THE BASIS OF THE DELIVERED DESIGN PROJECT AND ON THE LABORATORY WORK CARRIED OUT.
DURING THE ACADEMIC YEAR STUDENTS WILL HAVE A SKETCH BOOK FOR SKETCHES MADE DURING THE LECTURES AND DURING THE INDIVIDUAL STUDY.
COURSE FREQUENCY IS MANDATORY (MINIMUM 70%).
THE FREQUENCY VERIFICATION IS GENERALLY ELECTRONIC OR MADE BY THE TEACHER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE LECTURES AND LABS
Verification of learning
ALL THE DESIGN EXERCISES, THE MODELS AND THE DRAWINGS HANDED IN DURING THE YEAR WILL BE SHOWN AT AN EXHIBITION THAT WILL PROVIDE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR AN EVALUATION OF THE DESIGN PROCESS, STIMULATING DISCUSSIONS AND CRITICAL INSIGHTS WITH THE STUDENTS AND THE DESIGNERS INVITED AT THE EVENT IN QUALITY OF GUEST CRITICS.
TO THIS EVENT WILL FOLLOW AN INDIVIDUAL COLLOQUIUM, REGARDING THE TOPICS COVERED DURING THE COURSE, THE THEORETICAL READINGS AND THE STUDIED DESIGN WORKS.
THE STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE AN ASSESSMENT FOR EACH SEMESTER WORK, AND THE FINAL MARK WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE DESIGN EXERCISES, THE PERSONAL SKETCH BOOK AND THE FINAL COLLOQUIUM HELD DURING THE FINAL TEST.

THE LOWEST MARK (18) IS ASSIGNED WHEN THE STUDENT HAS LIMITED KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPICS AND WHEN THE DESIGN PROJECT WORK IS DEVELOPED DURING THE YEAR WITH INCONSTANCY AND INABILITY TO WORK SELF-CONTAINED.
THE HIGHEST MARK (30) IS ASSIGNED WHEN THE STUDENT PROVES TO HAVE A BROAD KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPICS AND WHEN THE DESIGN PROJECT WORK IS DEVELOPED DURING THE YEAR WITH CONSTANCY AND ABILITY TO WORK SELF-CONTAINED, SHOWING A TOTAL CAPACITY TO APPLY THE THEORETICAL REFLECTIONS DEVELOPED DURING THE LECTURES.
THE LAUDEM IS GIVEN WHEN THE STUDENT PROVES TO HAVE AN ABSOLUTE MASTERY OF THEORETICAL AND APPLICATIVE CONTENTS, THE ABILITY TO CONNECT DIFFERENT TOPICS TRANSVERSALLY, AND WHEN THE STUDENT IS ABLE TO TALK ABOUT THE ISSUES WITH AWARENESS AND MULTIPLE LANGUAGE PROPERTIES, MANAGING TO TACKLE PROBLEMS AS WELL COMPLEX ISSUES.
