Objectives
The Neuroradiology course is divided into five teaching modules: Neuroradiology with 2 CFU, Functional Neuroimaging with 1 CFU, Vascular and Interventional Neuroradiology with 1 CFU, Neurology with 1 CFU, Technical-Methodological Aspects of the Integrated Course with 1 CFU. The course aims to promote the acquisition of theoretical knowledge concerning the principles of Neuroradiology and Neurology, and the methodological aspects of the procedures of Neuroradiology and vascular and interventional Neuroradiology.
Knowledge and understanding
- Knowledge and understanding of the theoretical aspects of Neurology
- Knowledge and understanding of the theoretical and methodological aspects of Neuroradiology
- Knowledge and understanding of the theoretical and methodological aspects of vascular and interventional neuroradiology
- Knowledge and understanding of the theoretical aspects of Functional Neuroradiology
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
- Ability to use the main equipment in Neuroradiology
- Ability to apply the procedural methodologies of vascular, interventional and functional Neuroradiology
Transversal skills
- Ability to update through bibliographic tools.
Prerequisites
In order to understand and be able to apply most of the topics covered in the course, it is necessary to have passed the Tomography I preparatory exam.
Contents
The teaching is divided into 5 modules: Neurology with 1 CFU, Neuroradiology with 2 CFU, Functional Neuroimaging with 1 CFU, Vascular and Interventional Radiology (neuro) with 1 CFU, Methodologies in neuroradiology with 1 CFU. The course includes 72 hours of lessons in which the following topics will be addressed:
Neurology
Introduction to the Nervous System; neurons and glial cells; neurological syndromes (pyramidal, extrapyramidal, cerebellar, peripheral); cerebrovascular disease; multiple sclerosis; meningitis/encephalitis; amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and spinal muscular atrophy; basal nuclei diseases (Parkinson's disease, Parkinsonisms, chorea, dystonias); altered state of consciousness; neuropsychological syndromes and dementias (Alzheimer's disease and non-Alzheimer's dementias); epilepsies; neuropathies and myopathies. headaches.
Neuroradiology
- CT and MRI technique in Neuroradiology
- Advanced MRI techniques in Neuroradiology
- CNS anatomy
- Neuroradiological emergencies/emergencies
- Inflammatory, demyelinated and infectious pathologies of the CNS
- Brain tumors
- Hydrocephalus, intracranial hypertension and hypotension
- Pathology of the diencephalon-pituitary region
- Anatomy and pathology of the ear and the ponto-cerebellar angle
- Anatomy and pathology of the spine
- Pediatric pathology
Functional neuroimaging
- Brain anatomy;
- Cerebral vascularization.
- Acquisition of fMRI data.
- Processing of fMRI images.
- MRI spectroscopy.
Vascular and Interventional Radiology
- Principles of cerebral angiography;
- Radioprotection in the angiography room;
- Vascular brain anatomy.
- Acute ischemic stroke;
- Brain aneurysms.
- Cerebral arteriovenous malformations;
- Brain and craniofacial tumors.
Methodologies
- STUDY OF THE SKULL AND OF THE SPINE IN TRADITIONAL RADIOLOGY
- CT AND RM PROTOCOLS FOR THE STUDY OF THE BRAIN
- CT AND RM PROTOCOLS FOR THE STUDY OF THE FACIAL MUSCLE
- CT AND RM PROTOCOLS FOR THE STUDY OF ORBITS AND EAR
- CT AND RM PROTOCOLS FOR THE STUDY OF THE SPINE AND SPINAL CORD

- THE ROLE OF THE TSRM IN THE ANGIOGRAPHY ROOM
STANDARD PROJECTIONS FOR THE STUDY OF THE VESSELS OF THE NECK AND THE INTRACRANIAL CIRCULATION IN ANGIOGRAPHY
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE PROVIDES LESSONS FOR 72 HOURS. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY. TO BE ABLE TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM, THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST 75% OF THE HOURS PROVIDED FOR THE TEACHING. THE METHOD OF CHECKING THE PRESENCE IS NOTICED BY THE TEACHER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE LESSONS.
Verification of learning
The achievement of the teaching objectives is certified by passing an exam with an evaluation out of thirty. The test as a whole makes it possible to ascertain both the capacity for knowledge and understanding, and the ability to apply the skills acquired, and the ability to present, and the ability to learn and develop solutions in independent judgement. The professors in possession of the coordinated modules participate in the overall collegial evaluation of the student's progress.
