Objectives
THE COURSE PROVIDES THE STUDENTS WITH ADEQUATE KNOWLEDGE OF SAFETY RULES TO BE APPLIED IN THE CHEMICAL LABORATORY, WITH PARTICULAR REGARD TO THE CORRECT ORGANIZATION OF STRUCTURES AND WORKPLACES, AS WELL AS THE CORRECT MANAGEMENT OF THE EQUIPMENT AND CHEMICALS IN THE LABORATORY. SPECIAL ATTENTION WILL BE DEDICATED TO THE RISK AND SAFETY CONNECTED WITH POTENTIALLY HARMFUL AND/OR UNSTABLE SUBSTANCES.
Prerequisites
THE ACQUISITION OF THE LEARNING OBJECTIVES FOR THE FOLLOWING DISCIPLINES IS ADVISABLE: INORGANIC CHEMISTRY, ORGANIC CHEMISTRY I AND II
Contents
REGULATORY ASPECTS OF SAFETY (4 HOURS). CONCEPT OF SAFETY AS RISK MINIMIZATION (2 HOURS). MOST COMMON TYPES OF ACCIDENTS AND THEIR MAIN CAUSES (2 HOURS). DEFINITION OF RISK AND DANGER (2 HOURS). CLASSIFICATION OF DANGEROUS SUBSTANCES (2 HOURS). DANGER CLASSES AND SYMBOLS (4 HOURS). PHRASES OF RISK AND CAUTION. MAIN ROUTES OF EXPOSURE AND TYPE OF DAMAGE (2 HOURS). SAFETY DATA SHEET (2 HOURS). COLLECTIVE PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (DPC) AND PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) (2 HOURS). CHOICE OF PPE AND MAIN RULES OF GOOD BEHAVIOR IN A CHEMICAL LABORATORY (2 HOURS).
CLASSIFICATION AND LABELING OF CHEMICAL SUBSTANCES (2 HOURS). MOST COMMON SOLVENTS (2 HOURS). DEFINITION OF COMBUSTION AND EXPLOSIVE SUBSTANCES (2 HOURS). INCOMPATIBLE SUBSTANCES, CHEMICAL INSTABILITY OF SOME CLASSES OF SUBSTANCES (2 HOURS). TOXIC SUBSTANCES (2 HOURS). FLAMMABLE SUBSTANCES (2 HOURS). REACTIVE SUBSTANCES (2 HOURS). CRYOGEN LIQUIDS (2 HOURS). COMPRESSED GAS (2 HOURS). RADIOACTIVE SUBSTANCES (2 HOURS). NOTES AND EXAMPLES OF GREEN CHEMISTRY PROCEDURES (4 HOURS).

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES 48 HOURS (6 CFU) OF TEACHING (LECTURES). THE TEACHING METHOD IS BASED ON FRONTAL LESSONS AND MAKES ADVANTAGE OF THE CONTRIBUTION OF SLIDES AND THE ADOPTION OF DEDICATED BOOKS. AS PER DIDACTIC REGULATION, ATTENDANCE IN THE COURSE MUST BE CONSIDERED MANDATORY. THE CHECK OF THE PRESENCE WILL BE ELECTRONICALLY DETECTED. IN ORDER TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM, THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST 70% OF THE SCHEDULED TEACHING HOURS.

Verification of learning
THE FINAL ASSESSMENT OF THE PREPARATION WILL CONSIST:
- IN A WRITTEN TEST MANDATORY FOR THE ACCESS TO AN ORAL INTERVIEW, BASED ON MULTIPLE ANSWERS QUESTIONS AND OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS;
- IN AN ORAL INTERVIEW FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PASSED THE WRITTEN TEST AND ATTENDED THE COURSES WITH ASSIDUITY.
- THE WRITTEN AND ORAL TESTS ALLOW TO VERIFY THE LEVEL OF LEARNING OF KNOWLEDGE, OF THE CORRECT TERMINOLOGY, OF THE ABILITY OF ANALYSIS.
THE EVALUATION TAKES INTO ACCOUNT: LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED; ABILITY TO SYNTHESIS AND EXPOSURE, APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE; ABILITY TO ANALYSIS. THE VERIFICATION METHODS ARE CONSIDERED ADEQUATE IN RELATION TO THE OBJECTIVES OF THE TEACHING, AND ALSO TO THE EXPECTED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS. THE FINAL SCORE IS COMPOSED OF THE AVERAGE OF THE INTERMEDIATE SCORES OBTAINED IN THE WRITTEN AND ORAL TESTS, ALSO TAKING INTO ACCOUNT OF THE PROGRESS IN LEARNING IF ANY RECORDED BY THE STUDENT.
THE MINIMUM VOTE FOR OVERCOMING OF EXAMINATION IS 18/30. PRAISE CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO STUDENTS WHO REACH THE MAXIMUM VOTE OF 30/30 AND DEMONSTRATE THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO APPLY THEIR KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS INDEPENDENTLY
EVEN IN CONTEXTS OTHER THAN THOSE PROPOSED IN THE LESSONS.
