Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH A DEEPER KNOWLEDGE OF THE MOLECULAR MECHANISMS THAT GOVERN THE INTERACTIONS AND REACTIONS IN BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS AND OF THE REACTIONS IN WHICH VITAMINS ARE INVOLVED. AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL KNOW THE ORGANIC CHEMICAL MECHANISMS AT THE BASIS OF THE REACTIVITY OF THE MAIN VITAMINS SUCH AS NAD, FAD, THIAMINE, PYRIDOXAL, VITAMIN A, BIOTIN, FOLIC ACID, COENZYME A ETC ETC
AT THE END OF THE COURSE, BY APPLYING THE SKILLS ACQUIRED, THE STUDENT SHOULD BE ABLE TO DEVELOP THE CHEMICAL-PHYSICAL PRINCIPLES FOR THE ANALYSIS OF MOLECULAR INTERACTIONS IN BIOLOGICAL SYSTEMS IN WHICH VITAMINS ARE INVOLVED.
Prerequisites
THE ACQUISITION OF THE OBJECTIVES RELATING TO THE FOLLOWING SUBJECTS IS ADVISABLE: PHYSICS, GENERAL CHEMISTRY, ORGANIC CHEMISTRY, BIOCHEMISTRY.
Contents
INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE WITH SPECIFIC REFERENCES TO: CHEMICAL STRUCTURES OF THE FUNCTIONAL GROUPS OF BIOLOGICAL INTEREST 1H; POLARITY OF THE MOLECULES AND INTERMOLECULAR FORCES 1H; PROXIMITY EFFECTS IN ORGANIC REACTIONS 0.5H, MOLECULAR ADAPTATION PHENOMENA 0.5H; SUPRA-MOLECULAR RECOGNITION 1H.
MECHANISM OF ACTION OF THE CO-ENZYMES: NAD AND NADP 2H, FAD 2H, ASCORBIC ACID 2H, PYRIDOXAL PHOSPHATE 2H, BIOTIN 2H, THIAMINE PYROPHOSPHATE 2H, FOLIC ACID 2H, VIT B12 2H, VIT D 2H, VIT A. 2H
Teaching Methods
THE TEACHING METHOD IS BASED ON FRONTAL LECTURES AND MAKES USE OF THE CONTRIBUTION OF PROJECTED SLIDES TO GUIDE THE EDUCATIONAL PATH AND THE ADOPTION OF TEXTS DEDICATED TO IN-DEPTH THEMES.
Verification of learning
THE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN TEST.
THE WRITTEN TEST CONSISTS IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF A QUESTIONNAIRE OF OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS RELATED TO THE SCOPE OF THE PROGRAM AND SHOULD BE COMPILED WITHIN 120 MINUTES. THE QUESTIONNAIRE CONSISTS OF OPEN-RESPONSE QUESTIONS (AT LEAST 3 QUESTIONS) IN WHICH IT IS NECESSARY TO DESCRIBE THE TOPICS AND STRUCTURES OF THE MOLECULES INVOLVED WITH PROPER PREPARATION. TO OVERCOME THE EXAMINATION IT IS NECESSARY TO KNOW THE MOLECULAR STRUCTURES OF COMPOUNDS AND REACTIONS INVOLVED IN ENZYMATIC REACTIONS IN DETAIL.
THE WRITTEN TEST ARE USED TO VERIFY THE LEVEL OF LEARNING OF KNOWLEDGE, THE CORRECT TERMINOLOGY, THE CAPACITY FOR ANALYSIS, WHICH SHOULD BE THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED. THE ASSESSMENT TAKES INTO ACCOUNT A TOTAL OF: LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED; CAPACITY OF SYNTHESIS AND EXPOSURE, APPROPRIATENESS OF LANGUAGE; CAPACITY OF ANALYSIS. THE VERIFICATION PROCEDURES ARE DEEMED APPROPRIATE IN RELATION TO THE TEACHING OBJECTIVES, AND ALSO TO THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS EXPECTED. THE FINAL ASSESSMENT WILL TAKE ACCOUNT OF THE LEARNING PROGRESS RECORDED BY THE STUDENT.
