THE COURSE WILL CONSOLIDATE LINGUISTIC, TEXTUAL, PRAGMATIC AND TRANSLATION COMPETENCES ACQUIRED DURING PAST COURSES BY CRITICAL REFLECTION ON COGNITIVE PROCESSES AS WELL AS ON SOCIOCULTURAL ASPECTS OF PRODUCTION, RECEPTION AND TRANSLATION OF VARIOUS DISCOURSE TYPOLOGIES. BY THE END OF THE COURSE STUDENTS WILL HAVE ACQUIRED A LEVEL OF COMPETENCE CORRESPONDING TO C1 OF THE COMMON EUROPEAN LANGUAGE FRAMEWORK. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING STUDENTS WILL: - DEEPEN THEIR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE SPANISH LANGUAGE IN ITS SPOKEN AND WRITTEN FORMS AND WILL ACHIEVE LEVEL C1 OF THE CEFR ; - ACQUIRE METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS FOR LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS OF WRITTEN AND ORAL DISCOURSES FROM DIFFERENT FIELDS, ESPECIALLY IN RELATION TO CULTURAL HERITAGE AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION REGARDING MIGRATION ISSUES ; - DEVELOP THE NECESSARY SKILLS TO ACT AS MEDIATOR IN INTERCULTURAL ENVIRONMENTS; - ACQUIRE METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS TO TRANSLATE DIFFERENT TEXT TYPES; - BE FAMILIAR WITH THE BASIC TECHNIQUES OF DOCUMENTING, WRITING, EDITING AND PROOFREADING TEXTS. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: - USE THE SPANISH LANGUAGE FLEXIBLY AND EFFECTIVELY IN A VARIETY OF WORK CONTEXTS HAVING THE ABILITY TO EXPRESS THEMSELVES SPONTANEOUSLY AND FLUENTLY; - UNDERSTAND AND EXPLAIN THE EXPLICIT AND IMPLICIT INFORMATION OF A WIDE RANGE OF COMPLEX TEXTS BY EFFECTIVELY INTERPRETING THE SOCIO-LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL CODES OF THOSE INVOLVED IN A COMMUNICATIVE RELATIONSHIP; - SUMMARIZE INFORMATION FROM A VARIETY OF SOURCES, BOTH ORAL AND WRITTEN, RESTRUCTURING ARGUMENTS AND INFORMATION INTO A COHERENT TEXT; - PRODUCE CLEAR, WELL-STRUCTURED AND ARTICULATE TEXTS IN SPANISH, OF DIFFERENT KINDS, ON VARIOUS TOPICS, MAINLY THOSE RELATED TO CULTURAL HERITAGE AND MIGRANT PEOPLE; - TRANSLATE TEXTS BELONGING TO DIFFERENT DISCURSIVE TYPOLOGIES. MAKING JUDGEMENTS STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO : - ANALYZE AND ELABORATE THE SOCIO-CULTURAL ASPECTS OF BOTH ORAL AND WRITTEN LINGUISTIC PRODUCTION RELATED TO CULTURAL HERITAGE AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION ON MIGRATION IN THE SPANISH-SPEAKING WORLD, BOTH IN SPAIN AND AMERICA; - SELECT AND CRITICALLY EVALUATE DOCUMENTATION SOURCES ; - FORMULATE AUTONOMOUS JUDGMENTS AND POINTS OF VIEW ON PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE SPANISH LANGUAGE AND TO TRANSLATION FROM SPANISH INTO ITALIAN AND FROM ITALIAN INTO SPANISH. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO : - COMMUNICATE AT AN ADVANCED LEVEL IN SPANISH EFFECTIVELY AND WITH APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE TO DIVERSE INTERLOCUTORS; - TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE DIFFERENT SOCIO-CULTURAL CONTEXTS AND REGISTERS OF LINGUISTIC COMMUNICATION AND UNDERSTAND AND TRANSLATE DOCUMENTS OF VARYING COMPLEXITY; - ADEQUATELY PRESENT THE SOCIOCULTURAL CONTENT OF VARIOUS TYPES OF DISCOURSE THROUGH THE USE OF APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY AND REGISTERS. LEARNING SKILLS STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO : - IDENTIFY AND USE BIBLIOGRAPHICAL AND MEDIA TOOLS FOR CHECKING AND VERIFYING THE KNOWLEDGE POSSESSED, AND FOR CONTINUOUS SELF-UPDATING OF SUCH KNOWLEDGE; - ACCESS SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE PRODUCED IN SPANISH; - DEVELOP AN APTITUDE FOR CRITICAL PROCESSING AND RESEARCH IN THE FIELD OF SPANISH LANGUAGE; - USE THE MAIN COMPUTER TOOLS IN THE FIELD OF SPANISH LANGUAGE STUDY AND TRANSLATION FROM AND INTO SPANISH. |

THE HOURS ALLOCATED TO THE VARIOUS CONTENTS INCLUDE THEORETICAL-METHODOLOGICAL LECTURES AND CLASSROOM APPLICATION ACTIVITIES. - BRIEF HISTORY OF TRANSLATION THEORIES (2 HS); - TRANSLATION THEORIES SINCE THE MIDDLE OF THE XX CENTURY, WITH A FOCUS ON COGNITIVE APPROACHES (4 HS); -TRANSLATION METHODS, STRATEGIES AND TECHNIQUES (4 HS); - COGNITIVE AND SOCIO-CULTURAL ASPECTS OF EVERYDAY AND SPECIALIZED DISCOURSE GENRES (10 HS); - TRANSLATION OF TEXTS RELATED TO MIGRATION ISSUES (8 HS); - TRANSLATION OF TEXTS RELATED TO CULTURAL HERITAGE MANAGEMENT (8 HS) ; - TRANSLATION OF SPECIFIC TEXTS FOR EACH CURRICULUM : LANGUAGES FOR TERRITORIAL RESOURCES AND ECONOMIES, LINGUISTICS AND LANGUAGE TEACHING, LITERATURE AND LITERARY TRANSLATION (9 HS). - GRAMMATICAL, LEXICAL, DISCURSIVE AND PRAGMATIC ASPECTS OF THE SPANISH LANGUAGE AT CEFR LEVEL C1 (80 HS EXERCISES WITH LANGUAGE EXPERT). |

THE ONE-YEAR COURSE COMPRISES 125 HOURS OF TEACHING AS FOLLOWS: 1) MODULE HELD BY THE LECTURER (45 HOURS) - THEORETICAL LECTURES ON ALL COURSE TOPICS WITH APPLICATION EXERCISES (DOCUMENTATION, ANALYSIS OF DISCURSIVE GENRES AND MEDIATION ACTIVITIES: SUMMARISING, PARAPHRASING, TRANSLATING); -GROUP WORK TO BE CARRIED OUT INDEPENDENTLY AND DISCUSSED IN CLASS WITH THE TEACHER (READER'S REPORT, TRANSLATIONS). 2) PRACTICAL LANGUAGE ACTIVITIES IN LANGUAGE LABS HELD BY THE LANGUAGE EXPERT (80 HOURS) - PRACTICE OF THE FOUR BASIC SKILLS TO ACHIEVE A C1 CEFR LEVEL OF LANGUAGE COMPETENCE. STUDENTS WHO ATTEND AT LEAST 80% OF THE HOURS OF THE COURSE AND PARTICIPATE ACTIVELY AND ASSIDUOUSLY IN THE PROPOSED ACTIVITIES WILL BE CONSIDERED AS ATTENDING STUDENTS FOR THE PURPOSES OF THE LEARNING ASSESMENT PROCEDURE. WRITTEN AND ORAL EXAMINATION WITH A SINGLE GRADE EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS. ATTENDING STUDENTS WRITTEN TESTS DURING THE COURSE WILL ASSESS THE GRADUAL ACQUISITION OF : - THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE AND THE ABILITY TO APPLY IT IN THE TRANSLATION OF TEXTS AND IN THE WRITING OF READER’S REPORTS; - THE FOUR BASIC SKILLS TO REACH A LEVEL OF LINGUISTIC COMPETENCE EQUIVALENT TO C1 IN THE CEFR. STUDENTS WHO FAIL THESE TESTS CAN TAKE THE WRITTEN EXAM FOR NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS IN ORDER TO TAKE THE FINAL ORAL EXAM. THE ORAL EXAM CONSISTS OF : - REVIEWING AND COMMENTING OF THE WRITTEN TESTS ; - A SPEAKING PART ON READINGS AND MOVIES IN SPANISH TO ASSESS COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE CORRESPONDING TO LEVEL C1 ; - REVIEWING AND COMMENTING OF THE AUTONOMOUS WORKS CARRIED OUT BY THE STUDENTS DURING THE COURSE, - ORAL INTERVIEW ON THE THEORETICAL ISSUES DEALT WITH DURING THE COURSE. NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS THE WRITTEN EXAM WILL BE TAKEN AT THE END OF THE WHOLE COURSE AND LASTS 3 HOURS 30 MIN. ONLY STUDENTS WHO PASS THE WRITTEN EXAM CAN TAKE THE ORAL EXAM. THE WRITTEN EXAM CONSISTS OF : - A TEST COVERING THE GRAMMATICAL, LEXICAL, DISCURSIVE AND PRAGMATIC ASPECTS OF THE SPANISH LANGUAGE AT CEFR LEVEL C1; - SHORT TEST OF BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE LECTURER’S TOPICS ; - TRANSLATIONS OF SHORT TEXTS RELATED TO CULTURAL HERITAGE, MIGRATION ISSUES AND SHORT TEXTS BELONGING TO THE THREE CURRICULA; - SHORT ESSAY. THE ORAL EXAM CONSISTS OF : - REVIEWING AND COMMENTING OF THE WRITTEN TESTS ; - A SPEAKING PART ON READINGS AND MOVIES IN SPANISH TO ASSESS COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE CORRESPONDING TO LEVEL C1 ; - INTERVIEW ON THEORETICAL ISSUES DELT WITH DURING THE COURSE. ATTENDING AND NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS WILL BE ASSESSED ON THE FOLLOWING ASPECTS : - THE QUALITY OF THE PRESENTATION, IN TERMS OF CLARITY AND USE OF APPROPRIATE METALANGUAGE; - THE ABILITY TO CROSS-REFERENCE THE VARIOUS TOPICS OF THE COURSE AND, WHERE POSSIBLE, WITH OTHER DISCIPLINES; - THE AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT. THE FINAL GRADE TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE RESULTS OF THE VARIOUS TESTS AS WELL AS THE PROGRESSION FROM THE STARTING LEVELS, SO IT IS NOT MERELY AN ARITHMETIC AVERAGE. THE MINIMUM ASSESSMENT LEVEL (18) IS AWARDED WHEN THE STUDENT HAS A FRAGMENTARY KNOWLEDGE OF THE THEORETICAL CONTENT, A LIMITED ABILITY TO APPLY IT TO DISCURSIVE ANALYSIS AND TRANSLATION AND SHOWS A LINGUISTIC COMPETENCE BARELY ADEQUATE AT C1 LEVEL OF THE CEFR. THE HIGHEST LEVEL (30) IS AWARDED WHEN THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES A COMPLETE AND THOROUGH KNOWLEDGE OF THE THEORETICAL ISSUES, A HIGH ABILITY TO APPLY IT TO THE CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF TEXTS FROM THE BIBLIOGRAPHY AND TO TRANSLATION AND SHOWS FULL ACHIEVEMENT OF LEVEL C1 OF THE CEFR. HONOURS ARE AWARDED WHEN THE CANDIDATE DEMONSTRATES SIGNIFICANT MASTERY OF THE THEORETICAL AND PROCEDURAL CONTENT AND SHOWS THE ABILITY TO PRESENT THE TOPICS WITH CONSIDERABLE LANGUAGE PROPERTY AND THE CAPACITY FOR AUTONOMOUS CRITICAL PROCESSING. THE WRITTEN TEST IS VALID FOR ONE ACADEMIC YEAR. IF, FOR EXAMPLE, A STUDENT HAS PASSED THE WRITTEN TEST DURING THE SUMMER SESSION, HE CAN TAKE THE ORAL FOR THE ENTIRE SUMMER SESSION OF THE NEXT YEAR (JULY INCLUDED). |
