Prize winner for the Asian Federation of Sports Medicine, 2nd Congress, Best Basic Sciences paper. The prize money financed a five day visit to the Section of Paediatric Orthopaedics, Department of Orthopaedics, Catholic Medical Center Medical School, Kangnam St. Mary’s Hospital, Seoul (Head of Department: Prof. I.-Y. Ok), one of the teaching hospitals of Seoul. The Department is a tertiary referral centre for paediatric orthopaedics for the whole of South Korea.

Prize winner for the British Orthopaedic Association, 22nd Instructional Course, Smith and Nephews Richards Research and Travel Award: Patterns of meniscal tears in anterior cruciate deficient knees in athletes
The prize money financed a one-week visit to the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the Centre Hopitalier d'Annecy, Annecy, France (Head of Department Dr. G. Melere). The main interests of the Department are trauma, knee surgery and upper limb surgery. The links for collaborative research projects were thus reinforced. Further projects were planned with French colleagues, namely a prospective study of intramedullary nailing in older patients, and a study on anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using a modified Jones technique.
