GENERAL OBJECTIVE
THE COURSE AIMS TO TRAIN THE STUDENT IN THE USE OF FUNDAMENTAL TECHNIQUES OFQUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS WITH CLASSICAL METHODS AND INUNDERSTANDING THE OPERATIONS TO BE CARRIED OUT IN THE EXECUTION OF CODEDANALYTICAL PROTOCOLS.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING SKILLS
THE STUDENT:
WILL HAVE UNDERSTOOD THE FUNDAMENTALS OF CHEMICAL ANALYSIS METHODS
WILL BE ABLE TO EVALUATE THE QUALITY OF THE RESULT OF A CHEMICAL ANALYSIS ANDEXPRESS IT WITH THE STATISTICAL UNCERTAINTY ASSOCIATED WITH IT
APPLICATION KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
UNDERSTAND OFFICIAL ANALYTICAL PROTOCOLS
PERFORM QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE CHEMICAL ANALYSES WITH CLASSICALMETHODS ON SOLID, LIQUID, AND GASEOUS SAMPLES
PROCESS THE MEASUREMENTS MADE TO OBTAIN ANALYTICAL INFORMATION
EXPRESS THE RESULTS OF THE ANALYSES WITH THE ASSOCIATED STATISTICALUNCERTAINTY
AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
USE THE BEST EXPERIMENTAL CONDITIONS FOR EACH SPECIFIC DETERMINATION TO BECARRIED OUT
USE THE NECESSARY SCIENTIFIC DATA FOR THE EXECUTION OF A DETERMINATION
COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
COMMUNICATE IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
REPRESENT AND COMMUNICATE, THROUGH TEXTS OR VIRTUAL TOOLS, RESULTS OFRESEARCH OR OWN ELABORATIONS
LEARNING SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND COMPUTER RESOURCES FOR ANALYSISAND ARCHIVING
UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX TEXTS, OF A PUBLICIST OR LITERARY NATURE
PROCEED WITH THE CONTINUOUS UPDATING OF THEIR KNOWLEDGE, USING TECHNICALAND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE
Prerequisites
TO PARTICIPATE IN LABORATORY EXERCISES, STUDENTS MUST HAVE PASSED THE EXAM INGENERAL CHEMISTRY AND STOICHIOMETRY. BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF GENERALCHEMISTRY, MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS, PHYSICS, COMPUTER SCIENCE, AND THE ENGLISHLANGUAGE IS REQUIRED.
Contents
1. THE BASIC OPERATIONS OF ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY. MAIN PHASES OF CHEMICALANALYSIS. (5 HOURS LECTURE)
2. ERRORS IN ANALYTICAL DETERMINATIONS. DATA TREATMENT AND THE USE OF ASPREADSHEET IN ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY. (5 HOURS LECTURE)
3. ACID-BASE EQUILIBRIA IN CHEMICAL ANALYSIS. GRAPHICAL AND NUMERICALMETHODS FOR STUDYING AND REPRESENTING ACID-BASE EQUILIBRIA. APPLICATIONS OFACID-BASE REACTIONS IN QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS. (20 HOURSLECTURE, 15 HOURS LABORATORY)
4. COMPLEX FORMATION EQUILIBRIA IN CHEMICAL ANALYSIS. GRAPHICAL ANDNUMERICAL METHODS FOR STUDYING AND REPRESENTING COMPLEX FORMATIONEQUILIBRIA. APPLICATIONS OF COMPLEXATION REACTIONS IN QUANTITATIVE ANDQUALITATIVE ANALYSIS. (10 HOURS LECTURE, 15 HOURS LABORATORY)

Teaching Methods
LECTURES: 6 CREDITS (48 HOURS); TUTORIALS: 2CREDITS (24 HOURS); LABORATORY EXERCISES: 4 CREDITS (48 HOURS).
Verification of learning
THE EXAM CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN TEST AND AN ORAL EXAM. IN THE WRITTEN TEST, THE STUDENT MUST BE ABLE TO SOLVE EXERCISES AIMED AT VERIFYING THE ASSIMILATION OF THE CONCEPTS EXPLAINED IN CLASS AND APPLIED IN LABORATORY EXERCISES. THE ORAL EXAM WILL BE ACCESSIBLE TO STUDENTS WHO HAVE OBTAINED A RATING DEEMEDSUFFICIENT BY THE TEACHER IN THE WRITTEN TEST. THE ORAL EXAM ALSO INCLUDES ADISCUSSION OF THE WRITTEN TEST AND THE EXERCISES CARRIED OUT IN THELABORATORY. IT WILL AIM TO VERIFY THE STUDENT'S THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVESELUCIDATED IN THE DEDICATED SECTION. IN THE FINAL EVALUATION, THE TEACHER WILL NOT ADOPT A NOTARIAL ATTITUDE, NOR ANY PREDETERMINED ALGORITHM.
