THE MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE ARE: 1) DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO USE ENGLISH AND STRENGTHEN COMMUNICATIVE INTERACTION WITH AN ENRICHMENT OF TRANSVERSE AND INTERCULTURAL SKILLS IN ENGLISH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES; 2) GREATER UNDERSTANDING AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE FOUR BASIC LANGUAGE SKILLS: READING, WRITING, LISTENING AND SPEAKING; 3) IMPROVE THE UNDERSTANDING AND USE OF ENGLISH GRAMMAR WITH KNOWLEDGE OF THE STRUCTURES AND LANGUAGE FUNCTIONS TO THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK LEVEL B1/B2; 4) DEVELOP AN UNDERSTANDING OF TECHNICAL, PROFESSIONAL AND SCIENTIFIC TEXTS; 5) ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO USE THE SPECIFIC LANGUAGE; 6) TO ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO STUDY INDEPENDENTLY. THE OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF THE MODULE IS TO PROVIDE THE TOOLS NECESSARY TO BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE KEY POINTS OF TOPICS THAT CONCERN THE STUDY, WORK LEISURE AND EVERYDAY LIFE. KNOWING HOW TO DEAL WITH MOST SITUATIONS THAT MIGHT ARISE IN THE COUNTRY WHERE ENGLISH IS SPOKEN. BE ABLE TO DESCRIBE EXPERIENCES AND EVENTS, DREAMS, HOPES AND AMBITIONS, ALSO BRIEFLY EXPLAIN THE REASONS FOR OPINIONS AS WELL AS PROJECTS. |

THE COURSE SYLLABUS IS DIVIDED INTO MACRO-TOPICS RELATING TO ENGLISH IN THE WORLD, WITH PARTICULAR REGARD TO INTERACTION WITH OTHER FIELDS OF STUDY, FOR EXAMPLE, INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION; LANGUAGE AND SOCIAL MEDIA; TRADITIONAL LANGUAGE AND MEDIA; LANGUAGE FOR SPECIAL PURPOSES. THE MACRO-TOPICS WILL BE STUDIED THROUGH THE STRATEGIES OF RE-ELABORATION AND SYNTHESIS OF THE CONTENTS IN ORDER TO FACILITATE THE ACQUISITION OF A SERIES OF FUNDAMENTAL LINGUISTIC ABILITIES TO CONTINUE THE STUDY OF THE LANGUAGE IN OTHER FIELDS OF STUDY. THE COURSE, STARTING FROM THE CULTURAL CONTENTS CONCERNING TEACHING, WILL HIGHLIGHT AND TREAT THE USE OF THE LANGUAGE IN ITS FUNCTIONAL, GRAMMATICAL AND PHONETIC CHARACTERISTICS. THE COURSE WILL FOLLOW A COMMUNICATIVE APPROACH, WITH A "STUDENT-CENTRED" METHODOLOGY IN WHICH THE STUDENT IS THE CENTRE OF THE LEARNING PROCESS. A "NEEDS ASSESSMENT" WILL KNOW THE STUDENTS BETTER AND BECOME AWARE OF THEIR NEEDS, NEEDS, INTERESTS, AND PREFERENCES. THE PROPOSED TOPICS WILL PRESENT THE LANGUAGE STRUCTURES AND FUNCTIONS IN REAL SITUATIONS. AFTER AN INITIAL FRONTAL PRESENTATION, STUDENTS ARE INVOLVED IN ACTIVITIES OF "BRAINSTORMING", "PAIR-WORK", "GROUP-WORK", "PROBLEM-SOLVING" AND "DISCOVERY EXERCISES". THEY WILL BE INVOLVED IN SPONTANEOUS COMMUNICATION ACTIVITIES, IN PARTICULAR, DIALOGUES, MONOLOGUES, QUESTIONNAIRES, IMAGE DESCRIPTIONS, LISTENING TESTS, READINGS AND QUESTIONNAIRES, "CLOZE-TEST" AND "FILL-IN-THE-GAPS", COMPLETING TABLES AND GRAMMATICAL EXERCISES AIMED AT REACHING A FORMAL CORRECTNESS. THE COURSE WILL BEGIN WITH THE PROGRESSIVE STUDY OF GRAMMAR AND VOCABULARY, WHICH WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH A VARIETY OF READING, WRITING, HOMEWORK, LISTENING AND SPEAKING EXERCISES. THE PROGRAM WILL INTRODUCE STUDY SKILLS OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND INCLUDE SPECIFIC VOCABULARY. FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE COURSE, STUDENTS WILL BE ENCOURAGED TO COMMUNICATE IN ENGLISH. AFTER COMPLETING THIS MODULE, STUDENTS WILL ALSO BE ENCOURAGED TO SUPPORT A SHORT PRESENTATION (INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP) IN ENGLISH. THE TOPICS FOR THE PRESENTATION WILL BE DECIDED DURING THE COURSE OF THE MODULE. |

THE EXAM CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN TEST ON THE TOPICS COVERED AND VERIFIES THE LANGUAGE SKILLS ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT DURING THE COURSE. THE TEST HAS A TOTAL SCORE OF 30 (THE MINIMUM TO PASS THE TEST: 18); THE LEVEL OF THE OF THE TEST IS B1 ACCORDING TO THE CEFR WITH VARIOUS TYPES OF EXERCISES: MULTIPLE CHOICE, TEXT COMPLETION, READING COMPRHENSION AND WRITING. THE STUDENT MUST SHOW A SUITABLE DEGREE OF KNOWLEDGE OF THE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE RELATED TO THE COURSE. THE FINAL EVALUATION WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO USE THE TECHNICAL LANGUAGE OF THE SUBJECT. THE FINAL GRADE IS EXPRESSED: PASS/FAIL |
