Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE A THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK ABOUT THE PSYCHOLOGICAL MEASUREMENT TOOLS USED IN EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: TO KNOW THE MAIN PSYCHOLOGICAL MEASUREMENT SCALES AND THEIR USE IN EDUCATIONAL CONTEXTS.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: TO BE ABLE TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, WITH REFERENCE TO THE USE OF SPECIFIC PSYCHOLOGICAL MEASUREMENT SCALES IN EDUCATIONAL CONTEXTS.

MAKING JUDGMENTS: TO BE ABLE TO CRITICALLY EVALUATE THE ADEQUACY OF PSYCHOLOGICAL MEASUREMENT SCALES IN EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS, INCLUDING THE ABILITY TO ASSESS SCIENTIFIC SOURCES AND EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE SUPPORTING THE USE OF SUCH SCALES.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: TO BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE CLEARLY AND ACCURATELY THE USE AND APPLICATION OF PSYCHOLOGICAL MEASUREMENT SCALES IN EDUCATIONAL CONTEXTS, BOTH VERBALLY AND IN WRITING.

ABILITY TO LEARN: TO BE ABLE TO AUTONOMOUSLY LEARN THE USE OF PSYCHOLOGICAL MEASUREMENT SCALES AND INTEGRATE THEM INTO EDUCATIONAL CONTEXTS.
Prerequisites
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND TO THIS ACTIVITY IS THE TEACHING OF GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY.
THE COURSE PRESUPPOSES KNOWLEDGE OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE (FOR THE UNDERSTANDING OF SCIENTIFIC PAPERS IN ENGLISH).
Contents
THE TEACHING OF PSYCHOLOGICAL MEASUREMENT TOOLS IN THE EDUCATIONAL CONTEXT WILL DELVE INTO THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:

•PSYCHOLOGICAL MEASUREMENT IN EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS (2 HOURS LECTURE).
•PSYCHOLOGICAL SCALES IN EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS. DIMENSIONALITY, VALIDITY, AND RELIABILITY OF A PSYCHOLOGICAL SCALES (4 HOURS LECTURE + 2 HOURS CLASSROOM ACTIVITY).
•MEASURING STUDY MOTIVATION (4 HOURS LECTURE + 2 HOURS CLASSROOM ACTIVITY).
•MEASURING STUDENTS' COMPETENCE, RELATIONSHIP NEEDS, AND AUTONOMY (4 HOURS LECTURE + 2 HOURS CLASSROOM ACTIVITY).
•MEASURING SELF-EFFICACY IN STUDYING (2 HOURS LECTURE).
•MEASURING EMOTIONS AND WELL-BEING AT SCHOOL (2 HOURS LECTURE).
•MEASURING SCHOOL CLIMATE (4 HOURS LECTURE + 2 HOURS CLASSROOM ACTIVITY).
•MEASURING STUDENTS' IDEAS AND PERSPECTIVES AT SCHOOL (4 HOURS LECTURE + 2 HOURS CLASSROOM ACTIVITY).

THE INSTRUCTOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO PARTIALLY MODIFY THE COURSE STRUCTURE TO ADDRESS ANY EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF THE STUDENTS.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES FRONTAL TEACHING SESSIONS AND INDIVIDUAL AND/OR GROUP CLASSROOM EXERCISES. FRONTAL TEACHING SESSIONS WILL ALTERNATE BETWEEN EXPLANATIONS BY THE INSTRUCTOR AND CLASSROOM DISCUSSIONS. PRESENTATIONS MAY BE SUPPORTED BY SLIDES (E.G., POWERPOINT). INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP EXERCISES WILL ALLOW STUDENTS TO REFLECT, WORK ON, AND DISCUSS CONCEPTS, THEORIES, AND MEASUREMENT SCALES PRESENTED DURING THE FRONTAL TEACHING SESSIONS. THESE INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP ACTIVITIES WILL ENABLE STUDENTS TO USE PSYCHOLOGICAL MEASUREMENT SCALES BY APPLYING THEM TO REAL-LIFE CONTEXTS AND SITUATIONS. ATTENDANCE AT LECTURES IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Verification of learning
THE EXAM CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN TEST. THE WRITTEN TEST COMPRISES MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS, OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS, AND EXERCISES. BOTH THE MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS AND THE OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS ARE AIMED AT EVALUATING THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE REGARDING PSYCHOLOGICAL MEASUREMENT TOOLS IN EDUCATIONAL CONTEXTS, AS WELL AS THEIR THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK. THE EXERCISES WILL ALLOW VERIFYING THE ABILITY TO APPLY SUCH KNOWLEDGE IN PRACTICAL CONTEXTS, ASSESSING THE CRITICAL USE OF THESE TOOLS AND THE ABILITY FOR RESEARCH, ADAPTATION, AND/OR DESIGN OF THE SAME.
