---|---|
The course aims to provide students with the theoretical knowledge in the sociological and methodological fields to analyse in a conscious and critical manner the social, economic and cultural contexts in which individuals live today, a context in which the policies and services in which social workers operate take shape. Part of the teaching will be oriented both to provide knowledge of the fundamental categories, useful for questioning the main dynamics of contemporary society at a micro and macro social level, and to formulate interpretations and explanations that are empirically grounded or at least verifiable. Another part of the teaching will be geared towards providing the empirical research methods and techniques used in social research for the study of cultural contexts in which social and identity problems arise. |

Contents | |

The contents of the course are organized into two macro-areas. A first part will cover the basic concepts of sociology with particular reference to: the mechanisms underlying the interaction between the individual and society, the elements that constitute cultural heritage and its modes of transmission, the dynamics inherent in social stratification and mobility processes, and socialization processes. The second part will cover knowledge useful for understanding methodological vocabulary and critically assessing the specifics and appropriateness of methods and techniques for conducting social research. |

Verification of learning | |
---|---|
Learning will be proved by means of an examination aimed at verifying knowledge and comprehension of the fundamental principles of sociology and social research, consistent with the training objectives and the contents of the course. The oral test is aimed at verifying the level of understanding of the contents of the examination texts and the topics covered during the lectures. During the examination, students must be able to cross-reference the topics covered during the course of sociology and social research and, where possible, connect them with the sociological subjects studied in the other subjects of the course: this part of the test will be useful for verifying the ability to gather and interpret the information deemed useful for making autonomous judgements, including reflection on social and methodological issues, as well as the learning ability required to undertake any subsequent studies with a considerable degree of autonomy. Account will also be taken of both the ability to expound the content and the ability to use language appropriate to the sociological scientific community. The examination will take the form of an oral interview and will be graded in thirtieths. Honours will be awarded to those who demonstrate not only that they have learned the subjects of the course, but also that they have critical faculties and mastery of the technical language of the subject. |
