Objectives
The course focuses on the analysis of theories of digital audiovisuals, starting with cinema and television and ending with social media. the objectives are: a) to develop in students an awareness of the complexity of the mediascape in which we live; b) to develop an awareness of the importance of the knowledge and application of theories of digital audiovisuals, processes and practices in contemporary society and different professional contexts; c) to develop a critical capacity to analyse and elaborate the principles, forms, practices and modes of expression of digital audiovisuals, from comics to cinema, television and social media.

The student will be able to recognise and outline the fundamental principles of media and sociology of media and some of the basic structures that characterise audiovisual communication, with particular reference to cinema, comics, television and social media. furthermore, they will acquire the theoretical knowledge to operate within the framework of contemporary audiovisual production and will develop adequate conceptual tools and critical skills to autonomously evaluate theoretical issues and languages of different media about the contemporary digital society in which we live.
Prerequisites
General knowledge of the history and sociology of digital media, basic knowledge of the history of cinema and television, and basic knowledge of the sociology of cultural processes.
Contents
The teaching contents are:
1) theories (sociological, cultural, mediological) of digital audiovisuals;
2) analysis of digital audiovisual practices and phenomena (audience engagement, fandom, domestic consumption, etc.).
3) case histories of some contemporary seriality products.
Teaching Methods
The course will be held through lectures, seminar activities, analysis of audiovisual sequences (from movies, television and social media), and open classroom discussion on the phenomenology of digital audiovisuals.
Verification of learning
Knowledge will be tested by an oral examination, through which the acquisition of methodologies, theories and tools of the discipline will be ascertained based on the course content and texts.
