TO INTRODUCE AND DEEPEN KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORLD OF BUSINESS INFORMATION SYSTEMS, THROUGH A VISION DETAILED ON THE EVOLUTION OF BUSINESS IN THE KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY, THE VARIOUS COMPONENTS OF OPERATIONAL SYSTEMS, INFORMATIONAL AND DSS, SOFTWARE-DSS PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND DECISION MAKING. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING SKILLS: STUDENTS WILL GAIN KNOWLEDGE ON METHODOLOGICAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL ASPECTS THAT CHARACTERIZE BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE AND DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEMS. STUDENTS WILL ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE STATE OF THE ART AND LITERATURE IN THE FIELD. STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE GAINED IN THE COURSE FOR THE PURPOSE OF ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF SYSTEMS DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEMS. A DATA-DRIVEN COMPANY MUST BE ABLE TO MAKE DECISIONS BASED ON OBJECTIVE FACTS, AND NOT ON SUBJECTIVE FEELINGS AND EVALUATIONS. IT IS NOT JUST A MATTER OF ADOPTING MODERN TECHNOLOGIES TO SUPPORT IT, BUT RATHER A STRATEGIC SHIFT THAT CAN BRING A DATA-DRIVEN CULTURE TO ALL LEVELS OF THE COMPANY. IN THIS COURSE, STUDENTS WILL LEARN THE ISSUES OF HOW TO TRANSFORM A COMPANY INTO A DATA-DRIVEN ONE, EXPLORING ORGANISATIONAL AND OPERATIONAL ISSUES, AVAILABLE TOOLS AND TECHNOLOGIES, ALL CONSISTENT WITH AN ORGANISATION'S DATA-DRIVEN STRATEGY. A SINGLE MODULE OF 30 HOURS, 20 OF WHICH ARE FRONTAL LESSONS AND 10 OF EXERCISES. THE TEACHING ACTIVITIES WILL BE DIVIDED INTO LECTURES (AIDED BY MULTIMEDIA MATERIAL) AND LABORATORY LESSONS WHERE STUDENTS WILL APPLY WHAT THEY LEARNED IN THE CLASSROOM AND THROUGH INDIVIDUAL STUDIES. |

THE EXAM CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN TEST DESIGNED TO ASSESS THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE ISSUES IN ADOPTING A DATA-BASED DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM. THE WRITTEN TEST IS IN MULTIPLE CHOICE FORMAT AND COVERS IN A HOMOGENEOUS WAY ALL THE TOPICS COVERED DURING THE LESSONS. THE SCORE OF THE TEST WILL CONTRIBUTE TO DETERMINING THE FINAL MARK, WITH EACH CORRECT ANSWER GIVING +1 POINT, WHILE EACH INCORRECT ANSWER WILL RESULT IN A MAXIMUM PENALTY OF -0.5 POINTS. ANSWERS NOT GIVEN WILL COUNT 0. STUDENTS MUST ANSWER AT LEAST HALF MORE OF THE QUESTIONS TO PASS THE EXAM; OTHERWISE, THE TEST WILL BE CANCELLED. THE ALGEBRAIC SUM OF THE ANSWERS WILL DETERMINE THE FINAL MARK. THE MULTIPLE CHOICE FORMAT WAS PREFERRED BECAUSE IT EFFECTIVELY ALIGNS WITH THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE, ENSURING COMPLETE COVERAGE OF ALL THE TOPICS COVERED AND ASSESSING STUDENTS' UNDERSTANDING OF THE ESSENTIAL CONCEPTS IN THE ADOPTION OF A DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM, BOTH THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL. THIS METHOD ENCOURAGES LEARNING BY COVERING A WIDE RANGE OF TOPICS AND OFFERS AN OBJECTIVE AND IMPARTIAL ASSESSMENT THROUGH UNIFORM COVERAGE OF TOPICS AND WITH A CLEAR SCORING SYSTEM, THUS REDUCE THE EVALUAR'S SUBJECTIVITY TO A MINIMIZE.
