Objectives
The course aims to provide students with a knowledge of the English language with particular
reference to the scientific and technical language used by psychology in the international field.
Knowledge and understanding: have a good written and oral knowledge of the English language;
acquire strategies and reading skills necessary to deal with scientific texts/articles concerning the
psychological field.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: OBJECTIVES At the end of the course, the student will be able
to:
1. share, in English, general information and specific knowledge of their field of study; use of
syntactic structures, even complex ones, in a complete, effective and correct way and use
appropriate vocabulary
2. read and understand the scientific literature in their field of studies and to present their
own research/ findings with an oral presentation in English.
3. apply this knowledge to different contexts

Contents
The course aims to relate the English language with the psychological terminology used in the
research and intervention activities of the future profession of psychologist. The course aims :
1. to provide the theoretical, methodological and lexical tools to understand both a written and
oral scientific text in English;
2. to improve listening comprehension skills of oral presentations/ lectures/discussions on
topics related to psychology ;
3. to promote the study of complex morphosyntactic structures and expand vocabulary;
4. to promote the study of specific elements of the scientific-professional jargon of psychology.
Teaching Methods
Lessons are held in English. The course includes both lectures and reading /listening
comprehension and speaking activities and grammar exercises. Students will be involved in
individual and also groupwork.
Verification of learning
The exam consists of an oral interview starting from an individual project presented by the student
on one or more topics related to the discipline and addressed during the course. In the second
part of the interview/exam, we will focus on purely linguistic-communicative aspects of the English
language covered (General English).
The assessment includes:
1. the linguistic competence demonstrated in the presentation of the project (with particular
attention to the correct use of specific vocabulary, pronunciation and intonation).
2. the organization of the content presented
3. the level of mastery of the topics covered
