Objectives
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE LABORATORY AIMS AT PROVIDING THE STUDENT WITH THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE COMPONENTS AND OPERATING MECHANISMS OF AN ELECTRONIC COMPUTER, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO INFORMATION REPRESENTATION AND PROCESSING. THE STUDENT ACQUIRES SKILLS TO APPLY COMPUTER SCIENCE KNOWLEDGE TO PROCESS COLLECTED DATA, USING SPECIFIC METHODOLOGIES, INSTRUMENTS, AND SOFTWARE AND AVAILABLE PLANT DATABASE (MICROSOFT EXCEL, IMAGEJ, AND OTHER TOOLS OF INTEREST).

CAPABILITIES OF APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE LABORATORY AIMS, AS A TRAINING OBJECTIVE, TO PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH THE ABILITY TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE TO MONITOR AND PROCESS DATA OF THE MAIN ENVIRONMENTAL PARAMETERS AND PLANT GROWTH, ALONG WITH THE KNOWLEDGE ON THE MAIN DATABASES FOR THE SYSTEMATIC DESCRIPTION OF PLANTS IN AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES.

MAKING JUDGEMENTS
THE LABORATORY ACTIVITIES WILL PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE ABILITY TO ADDRESS AND DISCUSS, IN AN AUTONOMOUS WAY, ARGUMENTS AND PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE APPLICATION OF COMPUTER TOOLS FOR THE MONITORING OF PLANT GROWTH AND VARIATION OF THE MAIN PLANT GROWTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL PARAMETERS OF PLANTS OF AGRICULTURAL INTEREST.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
THE LABORATORY PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO DEVELOP KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY OF SYNTHESIS ALSO THROUGH GROUP WORK AND TO ACQUIRE COMMUNICATION TOOLS (DEVELOPMENT OF GRAPHICS; POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS) OF RELEVANT ASPECTS AND PROBLEMS IN AGRICULTURE.

LEARNING SKILLS
THE STUDENTS WILL BE CONTINUOUSLY ASSISTED AND ENCOURAGED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A PERSONAL AND INDEPENDENT, AS WELL AS GROUP-ORIENTED, STUDY APPROACH, THROUGH THE COLLECTION AND THE CRITICAL, MULTIDISCIPLINARY ANALYSIS OF THE DATA ACQUIRED IN THE FIELD.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF MATHEMATICS PROVIDED BY HIGH SCHOOLS IS REQUIRED.

THE MAIN TOPICS ADDRESSED IN THE COURSE ARE:

- UNIT 1 (1 ECTS, 12 HOURS):
COMPUTER SCIENCE AND INFORMATION PROCESSING SYSTEMS (DEFINITIONS AND THEORETICAL REMARKS)

- UNIT 2 (1 ECTS, 12 HOURS):
DATA ANALYSIS, INFORMATION REPRESENTATION AND GRAPHICAL REPRESENTATION OF COLLECTED DATA (USING MICROSOFT EXCEL FOR TABULAR DATA PROCESSING AND IMAGEJ FOR DIGITAL IMAGE PROCESSING)

- UNIT 3 (1 ECTS, 12 HOURS):
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES AND APPLICATIONS TO AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES
Teaching Methods
- CLASSES ON THE TOPICS OF THE COURSE.
- SEMINARS FOR THE PRESENTATION OF THE ACTIVITIES, METHODOLOGIES AND EQUIPMENT.
- INDIVIDUAL AND SMALL GROUP EXERCISES IN THE LABORATORY AND IN THE FIELD FOR DATA COLLECTION.
- USE OF SOFTWARE TOOLS FOR PROCESSING AND ANALYZING THE COLLECTED DATA.
- CLASSROOM EXERCISES: ASSIGNMENTS THAT ALLOW THE STUDENTS TO CONSOLIDATE AND DEEPEN THE TOPICS TREATED DURING THE THEORETICAL LESSONS.
Verification of learning
THE EXAM CONSISTS OF:
- A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION ON THE ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT IN THE LABORATORY AND IN THE FIELD;
- A PRACTICAL ASSIGNMENT REGARDING THE ANALYSIS OF A SERIES OF COLLECTED DATA, BY USING MICROSOFT EXCEL AND IMAGEJ.

A FINAL INDIVIDUAL ORAL EXAMINATION AIMED AT CONFIRMING THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND ASCERTAINING THE UNDERSTANDING ACHIEVED BY THE STUDENT ON THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL CONTENTS INDICATED IN THE COURSE PROGRAM.

IN CASE OF POSITIVE RESULTS, THE FINAL VOTE IS REGISTERED AS "PASSED".
