Objectives
KNOWLEDGE AND LEARNING SKILLS:
THE STUDENTS WILL ACQUIRE THE FUNDAMENTALS OF NUMBER SETS, ELEMENTARY ALGEBRA, EQUATIONS, INEQUALITIES, SETS, ELEMENTS OF LOGIC, RELATIONSHIPS AND FUNCTIONS, AND GEOMETRY IN THE PLANE.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
THE STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO BE ABLE TO USE THE MATHEMATICAL TOOLS LEARNED TO APPROACH THE ISSUES OF THEIR STUDY COURSE.
Prerequisites
KNOWLEDGE OF BASIC ALGEBRA AND REAL NUMBERS. INDEED, THE STUDENT MUST HAVE THE CAPABILITY OF UNDERSTANDING THE ELEMENTARY NOTION SUCH ADDITION AND MULTIPLICATION.

NUMBER SETS, ARITHMETIC. NATURAL NUMBERS, RELATIVE INTEGERS, RATIONAL NUMBERS, REAL NUMBERS. TWO-WAY CORRESPONDENCE BETWEEN POINTS ON A LINE AND REAL NUMBERS. INEQUALITIES, ABSOLUTE VALUE, POWERS AND ROOTS, NUMBER BASES.

ELEMENTARY ALGEBRA, EQUATIONS, INEQUALITIES. LITERAL CALCULUS. POLYNOMIALS. BINOMIAL IDENTITIES. RATIONAL EXPRESSIONS. IDENTITIES AND EQUATIONS. EQUATIONS OF THE SECOND DEGREE. ALGEBRAIC INEQUALITIES OF FIRST AND SECOND DEGREE. INEQUALITIES WITH FRATERNAL EXPRESSIONS.
SETS, ELEMENTS OF LOGIC, SET RELATIONS AND FUNCTIONS. ELEMENTARY LANGUAGE OF SETS: BELONGING, INCLUSION, INTERSECTION, UNION, COMPLEMENTARY, EMPTY SET. CARTESIAN PRODUCT. LOGICAL CONNECTIVES: NEGATION, CONJUNCTION, DISJUNCTION. IMPLICATION, LOGICALLY EQUIVALENT PROPOSITIONS, TRUTH TABLES. MEANING OF TERMS: AXIOM, THEOREM, PROOF, PROOF BY ABSURDITY. Verification of learning
BY THE END OF THE MODULE THE STUDENT NEEDS TO DO A FORMAL EXAMINATION. THE EXAM CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN TEST IN WHICH STUDENTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO SOLVE SOME EXERCISES. STUDENT SHOULD BE ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE AN UNDERSTANDING OF BASIC PROPERTIES, AND TO DEVELOP ANALYTICAL AND CRITICAL ABILITY REGARDING THE TOOLS AND THE DEVELOPED RULES.
