Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF MEDIEVAL LATIN LITERATURE AND ITS BACKGROUND. BY THE END OF THE COURSE, STUDENTS CAN EXPECT WHAT FOLLOWS:

-TO DEVELOP A BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF MEDIEVAL LATIN LITERATURE AND CULTURE THROUGH THE READING OF SIGNIFICANT TEXTS FROM 6TH TO XIVTH CENTURY
-TO ACQUIRE BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE MORPHOLOGICAL AND SYNTACTICAL FEATURES OF POST-CLASSICAL LATIN
-TO BECOME AWARE OF THE ROLE PLAYED BY MEDIEVAL LATIN LITERATURE AS A MOMENT OF TRANSITION FROM CLASSICAL AND CHRISTIAN CULTURE INTO MODERN AND VERNACULAR LITERATURE
-TO UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN ORAL AND WRITTEN CULTURE AND THE PROCESSES OF TRANSMISSION OF THE WRITTEN HERITAGE IN THE MEDIEVAL PERIOD
-TO DEVELOP A BASIC LEVEL OF COMPETENCE IN PHILOLOGICAL, LINGUISTIC AND LITERARY METHODOLOGIES CONCERNING MEDIEVAL LATIN LITERATURE

Contents
THIS COURSE INTRODUCES STUDENTS TO THE MAIN AUTHORS, TEXTS AND GENRES OF MEDIEVAL LATIN LITERATURE (6TH-15TH CENTURY). A PART OF THE LECTURES WILL BE DEVOTED TO CLOSE-READING AND DISCUSSION OF SELECTED MEDIEVAL LATIN TEXTS (IN ITALIAN TRANSLATION)
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE CONSISTS OF 30 HOURS OF LECTURES.
Verification of learning
FINAL ORAL EXAMINATION, COVERING THE CONTENTS OF THE WHOLE COURSEWORK.
THE STUDENT MUST DEMOSTRATE:
1) ABILITY TO ARTICULATE A COMPLEX SPEECH.
2) ABILITY TO HOLD AN ACCURATE DISCUSSION IN THE APPROPRIATE REGISTER.
3) ABILITY TO MAKE EXPLICIT CONNECTIONS, TYING TOGETHER IDEAS AND CONCEPTS COVERED THROUGHOUT THE COURSE
