THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE BROAD OUTLINES OF ROMAN HISTORY AND THE TOOLS TO UNDERSTAND THE MAIN ASPECTS OF ROMAN CIVILIZATION, FROM THE ARCHAIC AGE TO THE LATE ANTIQUITY. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE STUDENT -WILL KNOW THE MAJOR MOMENTS OF THE ROMAN HISTORY AND ITS POLITICAL, SOCIAL, AND INSTITUTIONAL EVOLUTION; -WILL UNDERSTAND THE INTERLACEMENT BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT DIMENSIONS (POLITICAL, ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, INSTITUTIONAL, AND CULTURAL) OF THE HISTORY OF ROME; -WILL UNDERSTAND THE ROLE OF ROME IN THE GENERAL FRAMEWORK OF THE ANCIENT MEDITERRANEAN WORLD AND IN THE SUBSEQUENT FORMATION OF THE EUROPEAN IDENTITY. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO -CONTEXTUALISE AND ANALYSE HISTORICAL FACTS AND THEIR SOURCES, DISTINGUISHING “HISTORY” FROM “HISTORIOGRAPHY”; -USE PHYSICAL AND POLITICAL MAPS CONCERNING THE DIFFERENT PHASES OF ROMAN HISTORY; -ELABORATE ORIGINAL APPROACHES TO HISTORICAL PROBLEMS OF ANCIENT ROME. AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO -RECOGNIZE THE STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF A MANUAL; -APPLY THE HISTORICAL-CRITIC METHOD TO THE READING OF THE SOURCES; -EXPRESS REASONED JUDGEMENTS ON FACTS AND PERSONALITIES OF ANCIENT ROME. COMMUNICATION SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO -USE THE SPECIFIC TERMINOLOGY OF THE DISCIPLINE; -SHOW A GOOD COMMAND OF THE LANGUAGE; -DISCUSS HISTORIC AND HISTORIOGRAPHICAL TOPICS WITH PERSONAL REFLECTIONS. LEARNING SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO -USE THE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHICAL AND RESEARCH TOOLS, AS WELL AS DIGITAL DATABASES AND E-LIBRARIES; -READ AND UNDERSTAND SCIENTIFIC TEXTS RELATED TO THE DISCIPLINE; -UPDATE HIS/HER KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS BY THE MEANS OF THE RELEVANT SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE. |
