Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO INVESTIGATE SOME CRUCIAL TOPICS OF ROMAN HISTORY, THROUGH THE ANALYSIS OF CONCRETE EXAMPLES AND THE DIRECT READING OF ANCIENT SOURCES.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT
-WILL KNOW THE MAIN SOURCES OF ANCIENT ROMAN HISTORIOGRAPHY;
-WILL KNOW THE MAIN DEBATES AND HISTORIOGRAPHIC TRENDS OF MODERN SCHOLARSHIP ON ANCIENT ROME.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO
-ASK QUESTIONS TO ANCIENT SOURCES AND CRITICALLY READ THEM;
-CARRY OUT ORIGINAL RESEARCH ON TOPICS RELATED TO THE DISCIPLINE;
-ACT PROFESSIONALLY IN THE DIFFERENT AREAS OF THE WORLD OF WORK RELATED TO CLASSICAL STUDIES, INCLUDING TEACHING ACTIVITIES IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOL.

-RECOGNIZE THE STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF A MANUAL;

-EXPRESS REASONED JUDGEMENTS ON FACTS AND PERSONALITIES OF ANCIENT ROME.

-MASTER THE SPECIFIC TERMINOLOGY OF THE DISCIPLINE;
-DISCUSS HISTORIC OR HISTORIOGRAPHIC ISSUES CONCERNING ANCIENT ROME, IN A CLEAR, EXHAUSTIVE AND WELL-ARGUED WAY.

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE PROVIDES 45 OF HOURS OF DIDACTICS [9 CREDITS] WITH FACE-TO-FACE LECTURES. IT AIMS TO INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO THE METHODOLOGY OF HISTORICAL RESEARCH ON ANCIENT ROME, THROUGH A MONOGRAPHIC COURSE FOUNDED ON THE DIRECT ANALYSIS OF THE SOURCES.
