Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO ILLUSTRATE FUNDAMENTAL ASPECTS OF ROMAN HISTORY FROM A POLITICAL, ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, RELIGIOUS AND CULTURAL PERSPECTIVE. IT IS AIMED AT PROVIDING SPECIALISED SKILLS AT AN ADVANCED LEVEL, NECESSARY TO TACKLE NEW PROBLEMS AND ISSUES AND TO BE ABLE TO DEVELOP ORIGINAL AND INNOVATIVE LINES OF RESEARCH.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE PHD STUDENT
-WILL BE ABLE TO DISTINGUISH, IN ANCIENT SOURCES, BETWEEN HISTORICAL DATA AND APPLICATION OF HISTORIOGRAPHICAL MODELS.
-WILL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE POLITICAL-CULTURAL CONTEXTS IN WHICH TO PLACE THE INFORMATION PROVIDED BY HISTORIOGRAPHICAL SOURCES.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE PHD STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO
-CARRY OUT ORIGINAL RESEARCH ON TOPICS RELATED TO THE DISCIPLINE;
-ACT PROFESSIONALLY IN THE DIFFERENT AREAS OF THE WORLD OF WORK RELATED TO CLASSICAL STUDIES, INCLUDING RESEARCH ACTIVITY.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT
THE PHD STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE REASONED JUDGEMENTS ABOUT THE HISTORIANS OF ANCIENT ROME, THEIR METHODOLOGY, THEIR RELIABILITY.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
THE PHD STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO DISCUSS ISSUES CONCERNING ANCIENT ROME AND ITS HISTORIOGRAPHY IN A CLEAR, EXHAUSTIVE AND WELL-ARGUED WAY.

THE PHD WILL BE ABLE TO USE FOR EDUCATIONAL AND/OR RESEARCH PURPOSES THE SCIENTIFIC TEXTS RELATED TO THE DISCIPLINE.
