IF THE TIME ALLOWS IT, THE STUDENTS WILL ALSO GAIN FAMILIARITY WITH THE MAIN TYPOLOGICAL-STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTICS OF UKRAINIAN IN RELATION TO OTHER SLAVIC AND NON-SLAVIC LANGUAGES. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO - AUTONOMOUSLY SELECT THE LINGUISTIC AND HISTORICAL-LITERARY SOURCES; - FORMULATE HYPOTHESES AND ARGUE ON THE MATERIALS PRESENTED IN THE CLASS HOURS. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO DISCUSS ABOUT THE DIFFERENT TOPICS BY EXHIBITING HIS/HER OWN CRITICAL CAPACITY AND UNDERSTANDING. FINALLY, ON THE BASIS OF THE ACQUIRED SKILLS, THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO - CRITICALLY EXAMINE AND RE-ELABORATE THE TOPICS COVERED DURING THE LESSONS; - APPLY THE LEARNED FACTUAL MATERIAL BOTH FOR DIDACTIC AND RESEARCH PURPOSES. |

THE FIRST PART OF THE COURSE (ABOUT 1/4) OUTLINES SOME HISTORICAL-COMPARATIVE AND TYPOLOGICAL-CONTRASTIVE ASPECTS OF EAST SLAVIC LANGUAGES (POSSIBLY, ALSO IN RELATION TO OTHER SLAVIC AND NON-SLAVIC LANGUAGES INCLUDING, FOR EXAMPLE, ITALIAN). HOWEVER, THE COURSE FOCUSES ON UKRAINIAN (FOR AT LEAST 2/4). THE SEMINAR INTENDS TO EXAMINE THE MAIN LINGUISTIC AND LITERARY PHASES IN THE HISTORY OF THE UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE (INTENDED HERE IN ITS BROAD SENSE) FROM THE RUS’ OF KYJIV UP TO THE PRESENT TIME. EVERY YEAR THE ATTENTION WILL SHIFT ON DIFFERENT PERIODS. MORE SPACE WILL BE DEVOTED TO THE PROCESS OF THE FORMATION OF MODERN UKRAINIAN (1798 - 1933), ALSO IN RELATION TO ITS DIALECTAL AND LITERARY VARIETIES. THE LAST PART OF THE COURSE WILL FOCUS ON BELARUSIAN. IN ORDER TO SUBSTANTIATE THE SEMINARS ON UKRAINIAN AND BELARUSIAN, FOREIGN SCHOLARS AND ITALIAN SPECIALISTS OF UKRAINIAN AND BELARUSIAN WILL BE INVITED. [FOR THOSE STUDENTS WITHOUT A PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE OF SLAVIC PHILOLOGY, A FEW LESSONS ON THE OLD CHURCH SLAVONIC AND OLD EAST SLAVIC LINGUISTIC AND LITERARY TRADITION MAY BE PROVIDED AND ACCOMPANIED BY THE READING OF SOME TEXTUAL FRAGMENTS]. |
