Teaching Methods | |
---|---|
TEACHING TAKES PLACE IN SEMESTER II. AFTER THE FIRST INTRODUCTORY LECTURE IN WHICH THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE AND THE METHODS OF FINAL EXAMINATION/EXAMINATION ARE PRESENTED, THE INITIAL PART OF THE COURSE (ABOUT 1/3) WILL BE CHARACTERIZED BY A SERIES OF FRONTAL THEORETICAL LECTURES. IN THE MIDDLE PART, THEORETICAL LECTURES WILL BE FOLLOWED BY CRITICAL DISCUSSIONS (1/3) DESIGNED TO STIMULATE REFLECTION ON THE TOPICS COVERED. THE LAST PART OF THE COURSE ALTERNATES THEORETICAL LECTURES WITH PRESENTATIONS AND DISCUSSIONS (ALSO IN THE FORM OF A TERM PAPER), AGREED IN ADVANCE WITH THE LEARNERS, ON SPECIFIC PHILOLOGICAL-LINGUISTIC BUT ALSO CULTURAL TOPICS OF THE SLAVIC WORLD (1/3). FOR FREQUENT ATTENDEES (THOSE WHO WILL HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST TWO-THIRDS OF THE TOTAL NUMBER OF HOURS) THE NOTES TAKEN DURING THE COURSE, RESPECTIVE PRESENTATIONS AND/OR TERM PAPERS ON A SPECIFIC TOPIC AND ONLY SOME PARTS OF THE REFERENCE TEXTS INDICATED DURING THE SEMESTER WILL BE SUFFICIENT. FOR NON-ATTENDEES, IN ADDITION TO THE PARTS (THE CHAPTERS/PAGES) INDICATED TO FREQUENT ATTENDEES, THE TRANSLATION AND INDEPENDENT COMMENTARY OF SOME TEXTUAL EXCERPTS PROVIDED DURING THE COURSE, THE READING IN FULL OF AT LEAST ONE OF THE TEXTBOOKS (OF YOUR CHOICE) ON PHILOLOGY IS REQUIRED (SEE BIBLIOGRAPHY/REFERENCE TEXTS). FOR FURTHER INFORMATION AND POSSIBLE CHANGES TO THE SYLLABUS, PLEASE ARRANGE IN ADVANCE FOR A RECEPTION. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
THE ACQUISITION OF THE SUBJECT MATTER COVERED AND THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE PROPOSED OBJECTIVES FOR THE DISCIPLINE IS VERIFIED BY PASSING AN ORAL EXAMINATION WITH EVALUATION IN THIRTIETHS. AT THE END OF THE COURSE, AN OPPORTUNITY IS GIVEN TO ATTENDING STUDENTS, I.E., STUDENTS WHO HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST 2/3 OF THE SCHEDULED NUMBER OF HOURS, TO WRITE, PRESENT AND DISCUSS A TERM PAPER (10-15 PAGES) AS A PARTIAL OR TOTAL REPLACEMENT FOR THE ORAL EXAMINATION. FOR NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS AND FOR ATTENDING STUDENTS WHO DO NOT INTEND TO PREPARE A WRITTEN PAPER OR WHO ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH THE FINAL OUTCOME OF SUCH A TEST, THE FINAL EXAMINATION IS ORAL, GRADED IN THIRTIETHS, AND INVOLVES THE READING, TRANSLATION AND LINGUISTIC COMMENTARY OF A PASSAGE IN OLD CHURCH SLAVONIC AS WELL AS THREE TOPICS/QUESTIONS - THE FIRST OF WHICH IS BY CHOICE, ON THE TOPICS COVERED DURING THE COURSE. A SIMILAR EXAMINATION PROCEDURE IS ALSO ADOPTED FOR NON-ATTENDERS. THE EXAMINATION IS PASSED IF THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES A SUFFICIENTLY THOROUGH KNOWLEDGE OF THE HISTORICAL-LINGUISTIC AND LITERARY TOPICS ILLUSTRATED AND COVERED IN THE COURSE SYLLABUS. IN EVALUATING THE WRITTEN AND/OR ORAL EXAMINATION, THE FOLLOWING WILL BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT: -KNOWLEDGE OF THE SUBJECT MATTER COVERED; -ABILITY TO SYNTHESIZE, CRITIQUE AND THE MASTERY OF TERMINOLOGY AND CONCEPTS; -ABILITY TO ANALYZE TEXTS FROM A PHILOLOGICAL POINT OF VIEW BY PLACING THEM IN A PRECISE HISTORICAL-LINGUISTIC AND LITERARY FRAMEWORK |
