FROM A HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE, THE COURSE AIMS TO ANALYSE THE CONCEPT OF "FREE TIME" AND THE PRACTICE OF THE LEISURE ACTIVITIES FOR THE AGES PRIOR TO THE CONTEMPORARY ONE, PLACE INDIVIDUAL PRACTICES GAMES IN THE SPECIFICITY OF EACH HISTORICAL CONTEXT, INCLUDING PHYSICAL-ATHLETIC AND COMPETITIVE PRACTICES, NOT YET DEFINED AS "SPORT", TO RECONSTRUCT THE CONCRETE WAYS OF PERFORMANCE, SOCIAL FUNCTION, CULTURAL REPRESENTATION AND ROLE PLAYED IN DIFFERENT EDUCATION SYSTEMS. |

THIS COURSE AIMS TO LEAD STUDENTS TO A CRITICAL REFLECTION ON THE TYPES OF PLAY AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES PRACTICED IN PRE-INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY, WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO ARISTOCRATIC AND COURTESAN CONTEXTS. THE OBJECTIVE IS TO INVESTIGATE THE DAILY ORGANIZATION OF COURT LIFE, FULL OF GAMES, SPORTS AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES, RELATED TO THE EDUCATION OF THE ÉLITES IN THE CONTEXT OF POLITICS IN EARLY MODERN SOCIETY. MAIN TOPICS OF THE LESSONS WILL BE: - THE BIRTH OF THE COURT SOCIETY. - THE FRENCH COURT FROM LOUIS XIII TO LOUIS XVI. - THE KING’S DAY. - PLEASURES AND COURT GAMES. - HUNTING AND SPORTING ACTIVITIES. - THE WORK AND THE DAYS OF COMMON PEOPLE. - FASHION AND COOKING. - THE DAILY LIFE OF THE GENTLEMAN. |
