Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH KNOWLEDGE ON THE HISTORICAL PROCESSES THAT HAVE CHARACTERIZED IN THE MODERN AGE
THE SOCIAL LIFE OF THE SOUTHERN AREAS AND THE DYNAMICS OF SOCIAL INCLUSION AND EXCLUSION.
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: KNOWING THE HISTORICAL EVENT OF SOUTHERN ITALY IN THE LARGE CONTEXT OF
EUROPEAN SOCIAL HISTORY.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: TO BE ABLE TO HISTORICALLY CONTEXTUALIZE SPECIFIC SOCIAL CHARACTERISTICS,
CULTURAL AND TERRITORIAL ORGANIZATION OF THE SOUTHERN ITALY WHICH MUST BE CONSIDERED IN THE PLANNING OF EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTIONS.

Prerequisites
BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF HISTORICAL CHRONOLOGY AND PERIODIZATION OF THE MODERN AGE.
Contents
THE COURSE STARTS FROM THE STUDY OF THE MAIN SOCIAL, CULTURAL, ECONOMIC AND INSTITUTIONAL ASPECTS OF ITALY IN THE EARLY MODERN AGE, WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO LIVING CONDITIONS, DISASTERS AND DISEASES, INSTITUTES FOR CARE AND ASSISTANCE.
A SPECIFIC STUDY WILL BE DEDICATED TO THE ITALIAN MEZZOGIORNO, ANALYZED IN THE CONTEXT OF ITALIAN AND EUROPEAN HISTORY, IN REFERENCE TO THE MAIN HISTORICAL EVENTS: FROM THE MEDIEVAL ORIGIN TO THE KINGDOM OF NAPLES, SICILY AND SARDINIA; THE KINGDOMS IN THE SPANISH IMPERIAL SYSTEM ; FROM THE REVOLTS OF XVIITH CENTURY TO THE END OF THE SPANISH VICEROY; THE AUSTRIAN PERIOD; THE BORBON KINGDOM; THE REVOLUTION OF 1799; THE NAPOLEONIC DECADE; THE KINGDOM OF THE TWO SICILIES; THE END OF THE KINGDOM AND THE ITALIAN UNIFICATION.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE AIMS TO ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS, SUITABLE FOR UNDERTAKING THE EDUCATIONAL PROFESSIONS WITH THE POSSESSION OF A SOLID CULTURE AND INTERPRETATIVE SKILLS. THE TEACHING METHODS ADOPTED PROMOTE THIS PROCESS, THROUGH THE INTEGRATION OF DIFFERENT ACTIONS: LECTURES ON MAIN TOPICS, SUPPORTED BY THE USE OF MASS-MEDIA TOOLS, FOLLOWED BY DISCUSSION WITH STUDENTS; READING AND CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF SHORT DOCUMENTS REPRESENTING IMPORTANT HISTORICAL EVENTS.
Verification of learning
FINAL ORAL EXAMINATION VERIFIES OBJECTIVES ABOUT KNOWLEDGE, CORRECT LANGUAGE, CRITICAL CAPACITIES. IT CONSISTS OF QUESTIONS ON THE SUBJECTS SUBMITTED DURING THE LESSONS AND REPERIBLE IN THE PRESCRIPTED BOOKS. IT CHECKS THE LEARNING OF THE CONTENTS, THE DISCUSSION CAPACITY, THE APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE, THE POSSESS OF CONCEPTS AND CONNEXIONS.
