GENERAL OBJECTIVE. THE EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE IS TO FURTHER DEEPEN KNOWLEDGE OF RELEVANT MOMENTS IN RUSSIAN CULTURAL HISTORY THROUGH THE STUDY OF THE HISTORY OF VERSE, POETIC LANGUAGE AND PROSE. THE FOCUS WILL BE ON THE ANALYSIS OF SOME OF THE WORKS OF THE MAJOR ARTISTIC PERSONALITIES OF THE VARIOUS PERIODS, FROM THE 'GOLDEN AGE' TO THE PRESENT DAY. KNOWLEDGE AND COMPREHENSION SKILLS. THE STUDENT WILL - WILL KNOW THE MOST RELEVANT MOMENTS IN THE LITERARY EVOLUTION OF RUSSIAN VERSE AND PROSE BETWEEN THE END OF THE 18TH CENTURY AND THE MODERN ERA ITS MAIN REPRESENTATIVES; - WILL UNDERSTAND THE CLOSE INTERRELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT DIMENSIONS OF THE POLITICAL, CULTURAL AND LITERARY HISTORY OF THE RUSSIAN SPACE; - WILL DEEPEN THE HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL RELATIONS BETWEEN RUSSIA AND EUROPE IN THE MODERN AGE. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO - DEVELOP ORIGINAL APPROACHES AND INSIGHTS IN THE ANALYSIS OF THE CULTURAL FEATURES THAT CONSTITUTE THE SPECIFICITY OF THE RUSSIAN SPACE; - COMPETENTLY EXAMINE THE REPERTOIRE OF LITERARY SOURCES RELATING TO THE RUSSIAN TRADITION OF THE 18TH-EARLY 21ST CENTURY; - EVALUATE WITH CRITICAL AWARENESS THE ISSUES ADDRESSED IN THE MORE GENERAL FRAMEWORK OF CULTURAL RELATIONS BETWEEN RUSSIA AND EUROPE; - FORMULATING HYPOTHESES, RECOGNISING LOGICAL CONNECTIONS, ARGUING, COMPARING AND EVALUATING LITERARY TEXTS; - PLACE AND CONSIDER LITERARY PHENOMENA IN RELATION TO THE CULTURAL CONTEXT OF REFERENCE AS WELL AS THEIR TEMPORAL EVOLUTION. AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO - SELECT AND CRITICALLY USE BIBLIOGRAPHIC AND LITERARY SOURCES - ESTABLISH MEANINGFUL CONNECTIONS BETWEEN TEXTS AND CULTURAL PHENOMENA BELONGING TO THE DISCIPLINE; - ESTABLISH COMPARISONS WITH OTHER CULTURAL FIELDS. COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO - HOLD CONVERSATIONS ON A VARIETY OF TOPICS SHOWING A GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF ISSUES RELATED TO THE HISTORY OF RUSSIAN LITERATURE; - REPRESENT AND COMMUNICATE THROUGH TEXTS THEIR ABILITY TO ANALYSE. LEARNING SKILLS. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO - USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHICAL TOOLS AND COMPUTER RESOURCES FOR ANALYSIS AND DATA STORAGE; - CARRY OUT RESEARCH, UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX SCIENTIFIC OR LITERARY TEXTS; - CONTINUALLY UPDATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE, USING THE SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE OF REFERENCE. |

READING AND PUNISHMENT: RUSSIAN LITERATURE AND THE MECHANISMS OF POLITICAL REPRESSION IN IMPERIAL RUSSIA (THE AADAEV CASE) (6 HOURS) 5. RELIGIOUS UTOPIANISM AND RUSSIAN LITERATURE IN THE 19TH CENTURY: THE CASE OF NIKOLAI GOGOL' (6 HOURS) 6. THE ORAL EXAM CONSISTS OF AN INTERVIEW ON THE TOPICS COVERED IN THE LESSONS, AIMED AT ASCERTAINING THE STUDENT'S HISTORICAL AND LITERARY KNOWLEDGE OF THE PERIOD UNDER EXAMINATION AND HIS OR HER ABILITY TO SYNTHESISE AND PERSONALLY REWORK THE THEMES ADDRESSED. WITH RESPECT TO THE TEXTS ON THE SYLLABUS, STUDENTS MUST DEMONSTRATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF THE DISTINCTIVE FEATURES OF THE WORKS OF KARAMZIN, AADAEV, GOGOL', GERZEN, TOLSTOY AND DOSTOEVSKY, THEIR THEMATIC LINES AND STYLISTIC PECULIARITIES AND, MORE GENERALLY, THE HISTORICAL-LITERARY CONTEXT OF REFERENCE.
