Objectives
GENERAL OBJECTIVE. THE EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE OF THIS TEACHING IS TO DEEPEN KNOWLEDGE OF RELEVANT MOMENTS IN RUSSIAN CULTURAL HISTORY THROUGH THE STUDY OF THE HISTORY OF VERSE, POETIC LANGUAGE AND PROSE. IT WILL FOCUS ON THE ANALYSIS OF SOME OF THE WORKS OF THE MAJOR ARTISTIC PERSONALITIES OF THE VARIOUS PERIODS, STARTING WITH THE 'GOLDEN AGE'.
KNOWLEDGE AND COMPREHENSION SKILLS. THE STUDENT WILL
- WILL KNOW THE MOST RELEVANT MOMENTS IN THE LITERARY EVOLUTION OF RUSSIAN VERSE AND ITS MAIN REPRESENTATIVES;
- WILL ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE OF THE HISTORY OF RUSSIAN METRE;
- UNDERSTAND THE CLOSE INTERRELATIONS BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT DIMENSIONS OF THE CULTURAL AND LITERARY HISTORY OF THE RUSSIAN SPACE;
- WILL ANALYSE THE HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL RELATIONS BETWEEN RUSSIA AND EUROPE IN THE MODERN AGE.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO
- DEVELOP ORIGINAL APPROACHES IN THE ANALYSIS OF THE CULTURAL FEATURES THAT CONSTITUTE THE SPECIFICITY OF THE RUSSIAN SPACE;
- COMPETENTLY EXAMINE THE REPERTOIRE OF LITERARY SOURCES RELATING TO THE RUSSIAN TRADITION OF THE 18TH-19TH CENTURIES;
- EVALUATE WITH CRITICAL AWARENESS THE ISSUES ADDRESSED IN THE MORE GENERAL FRAMEWORK OF CULTURAL RELATIONS BETWEEN RUSSIA AND EUROPE;
- FORMULATE HYPOTHESES, RECOGNISE LOGICAL CONNECTIONS, ARGUE, COMPARE AND EVALUATE LITERARY TEXTS;
- PLACE AND CONSIDER LITERARY PHENOMENA IN RELATION TO THE CULTURAL CONTEXT OF REFERENCE AS WELL AS THEIR TEMPORAL EVOLUTION.
AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO
- USE BIBLIOGRAPHICAL AND LITERARY SOURCES CRITICALLY;
- ESTABLISH COMPARISONS WITH OTHER CULTURAL FIELDS.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO
- HOLD CONVERSATIONS ON A VARIETY OF TOPICS SHOWING A GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF ISSUES RELATED TO THE HISTORY OF RUSSIAN LITERATURE;
- REPRESENT AND COMMUNICATE THROUGH TEXTS THEIR ABILITY TO ANALYSE.
LEARNING SKILLS. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO
- USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHICAL TOOLS AND COMPUTER RESOURCES FOR ANALYSIS AND DATA STORAGE;
- CARRY OUT RESEARCH, UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET COMPLEX SCIENTIFIC OR LITERARY TEXTS;
- CONTINUALLY UPDATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE, USING THE SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE OF REFERENCE.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE HISTORY OF RUSSIAN LITERATURE (19TH CENTURY); BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF ITALIAN AND EUROPEAN LITERATURE

2. ALEKSANDR PUSHKIN: LITERARY EVOLUTION AND POLITICAL POSITION (4 HOURS)
3. PETR AADAEV: THE FIRST "PHILOSOPHICAL LETTER" AND THE PROBLEM OF LANGUAGE (6 HOURS)
4. THE "SLAVOPHILES" AND THE "WESTERNISTS": POETRY, POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY AND THE PUBLIC SPHERE (4 HOURS)
5. NIKOLAI GOGOL': "SELECTED LETTERS FROM THE CORRESPONDENCE WITH FRIENDS" AND THE POLITICAL FUNCTION OF RUSSIAN LITERATURE (4 HOURS)
6. FEDOR TUTEV: POETRY AND POLITICAL PROJECTS (4 HOURS)
7. NIKOLAI NEKRASOV: POETRY AND THE CRITIQUE OF POWER (4 HOURS)
8. ALEKSANDER GERZEN: RUSSIAN LITERATURE AND SOCIALISM (4 HOURS)
9. FEDOR DOSTOEVSKY: RUSSIAN LITERATURE AND CONSERVATISM (4 HOURS)
10. LEV TOLSTOY: RUSSIAN LITERATURE AND RELIGIOUS ANARCHISM (6 HOURS).

THE COURSE CONSISTS OF 45 COMPULSORY HOURS OF LECTURES.
Verification of learning
FOR ATTENDING AND NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS: ORAL FINAL EXAMINATION.
EXAM ARRANGEMENTS. THE ORAL EXAM CONSISTS OF AN INTERVIEW ON THE TOPICS COVERED IN THE LESSONS, AIMED AT ASCERTAINING THE STUDENT'S HISTORICAL AND LITERARY KNOWLEDGE OF THE PERIOD UNDER EXAMINATION AND HIS OR HER ABILITY TO SYNTHESISE AND PERSONALLY REWORK THE TOPICS ADDRESSED. WITH REGARD TO THE TEXTS ON THE SYLLABUS, THE STUDENT MUST DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF THE DISTINCTIVE FEATURES OF THE WORKS OF AADAEV, GOGOL', TOLSTOY AND DOSTOEVSKY, THEIR THEMATIC LINES AND STYLISTIC PECULIARITIES AND, MORE GENERALLY, THE HISTORICAL-LITERARY CONTEXT OF REFERENCE. THE EXAMINATION IS DIVIDED INTO TWO PARTS: A) STUDENTS MUST RECOGNISE A QUOTATION (I.E. INDICATE THE AUTHOR AND THE WORK AS WELL AS DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE OF THE LITERARY CONTEXT RELATED TO THE QUOTATION); B) STUDENTS MUST ANSWER QUESTIONS ON ONE OF THE WORKS FROM THE LIST OF COMPULSORY TEXTS.
