Objectives
GENERAL OBJECTIVE:
THE TEACHING AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH A BASIS FOR CRITICAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE HISTORICAL-CONSTITUTIONAL EVENTS OF THE MAIN EUROPEAN PUBLIC ORGANIZATIONS AND OF THE MAIN COUNTRIES OF THE WESTERN AREA IN COMPARISON WITH ITALIAN ORGANIZATIONAL DIFFICULTIES. PARTICULAR ATTENTION WILL BE PAID TO THE PRE-COMPREHENSIVE STRUCTURES FROM WHICH ALL JUS-POLITICAL CONCEPTS ORIGINATE (E.G.: LEGISLATION; JURISDICTION; SOVEREIGNTY; LIMITS TO THE EXERCISE OF POWER; FREEDOM...) AND TO THE SOCIO-CULTURAL AND INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTS OF LEGAL, POLITICAL AND SOCIO-INSTITUTIONAL PHENOMENA.

KNOWLEDGE AND COMPREHENSION SKILLS:
TEACHING WILL ENABLE STUDENTS TO LEARN ABOUT HISTORICAL AND CONSTITUTIONAL PHENOMENA USEFUL FOR UNDERSTANDING THE CURRENT CONDITIONS OF WESTERN EUROPEAN STATES. STUDENTS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH THE TOOLS USEFUL FOR KNOWING AND UNDERSTANDING THE MAIN LINES OF DEVELOPMENT OF CONSTITUTIONAL THOUGHT AND PRACTICES IN THE MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY WEST, INCLUDING THROUGH COMPARATIVE ASPECTS THAT INVEST BOTH THE LEGAL AND THE ANTHROPOLOGICAL AND PSYCHO-SOCIOANALYTICAL PLANES, WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO SOCIAL REPRESENTATIONS AND PROCESSES OF STATE CIVILIZATION.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
THE EXPOSITION, READING AND ANALYSIS OF DOCUMENTS PRESENTED DURING THE COURSE WILL ENABLE STUDENTS TO KNOW THE MAIN CONSTITUTIONAL PHENOMENA ADDRESSED IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND CONTEMPORARY EVENTS WITH GREATER CRITICAL AWARENESS.

AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT:
THE TEACHING AIMS TO HELP STUDENTS IN THE PROCESS OF FORMING THEIR CRITICAL CONSCIOUSNESS AS CITIZENS OF A DEMOCRATIC STATE FROM THE STUDY OF CONSTITUTIONALISM AND STATE CIVILIZATION IN THE EVOLUTIONARY DEVELOPMENT BETWEEN OLD REGIME SOCIETIES AND CONTEMPORARY SOCIETIES.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
STUDENTS WILL BE EXPECTED TO DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE CLEARLY, EFFECTIVELY AND COHERENTLY THE TOPICS OF CONSTITUTIONAL HISTORY AND STATEHOOD LEARNED IN THE COURSE IN APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE.

LEARNING SKILLS:
STUDENTS' LEARNING SKILLS WILL BE FACILITATED BY THE PROJECTION OF SLIDES AND COMPUTER DOCUMENTS FOR THE PURPOSE OF FIXING ALSO VISUALLY AND WITH GREATER IMMEDIACY THE TOPICS COVERED DURING THE COURSE. ADDITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS WILL BE PROVIDED TO STUDENTS FOR MORE CONFIDENT AND USEFUL LEARNING.

NO PREREQUISITES ARE REQUIRED.

THE COURSE AIMS TO INTRODUCE THE STUDENT TO THE MOST SIGNIFICANT CONSTITUTIONAL THOUGHT AND EXPERIENCES AS WELL TO THE HISTORY OF THE PROCESSES OF CONSTITUTIONALIZATION IN THE MAIN WESTERN COUNTRIES, IN A LONG PERIOD OF TIME THAT MOVES FROM THE LOW MIDDLE AGES, IT PASSES THROUGH THE REVOLUTION OF THE MIND REALIZED BETWEEN RENAISSANCE AND ENLIGHTENMENT, THE TWO GREAT MODERN REVOLUTIONS (AMERICAN AND FRENCH) AND GOES UP TO ITS MOST RECENT DEVELOPMENTS.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO A SERIES OF LECTURES WITH THE USE OF DIFFERENT AUDIOVISUAL TECHNOLOGIES THAT REQUIRE THE CONSTANT AND ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF STUDENTS WHO WILL OFTEN BE ENCOURAGED TO INTERVENE DURING THE LESSONS.
Verification of learning
FINAL ORAL EXAM. THE TEST VERIFIES THE LEVEL OF UNDERSTANDING OF DISCIPLINE AND THE ABILITY TO ARGUE ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENT OF ANCIENT, MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY CONSTITUTIONALISM.
