Pietro CAVALLO Curriculum

Professor of Contemporary History (M-STO/04) at the University of Salerno.Currently, he teaches Contemporary History (Bachelor Degree of Communication Sciences) and Contemporary History and Audiovisual Media (Master degree in Language Theory and Audiovisual Communication).He is the Scientific Director of the Laboratory of History and Audiovisual Media at the Department Humanities at the University of Salerno.He studied the collective mentality and the organization of consensus in Italy during Fascism, the myth and the image of the United States in Italy from Fascism to the age of the First Republic, the radio and the theater in the years of the fascist regime, the collective behavior, feelings and attitudes of Italians in World War II, and the complex interlacements between cinema and history.Professor Cavallo is one of the promoters and founders of "Filmidea - Giornate di studio su Storia, Cinema, Musica e Televisione", an educational project which aims to highlight the overall role of the audiovisual media as an historical source, and also as "agents of history”, an essential element of our universe that from the Twentieth Century has changed the way we see the world and, ultimately, our work in the world. The initiative in 2012/2013 is now at its tenth edition.Pietro Cavallo worked as Historical Consultant with R.A.I. National Television for the programme "La Grande Storia in prima serata".Since 2002 he has been directing the "Necklace of Contemporary History" at the publisher Liguori, based in Naples.Since 2006 he has been part of the Scientific Council of the magazine "mondo contemporaneo", published by Franco Angeli, and also of the Scientific Council of the magazine "Cinema e Storia" published by Rubettino, in 2012.Currently, Pietro Cavallo’s research work focuses on the comprehension of the transformation of the “imaginary” of the Italians from the end of the World War II to the present day , through the analysis of movies, TV shows and press.
