STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET CRITICALLY THE EVOLUTIONARY PROCESSES AND THE ISSUES THAT AFFECT URBAN SPACE IN DIFFERENT GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS.
AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL HAVE ACQUIRED THE THEORETICAL AND OPERATIONAL BASES OF THE URBAN GEOGRAPHY. SHE WILL BE ABLE TO ANALYZE AND INTERPRET, IN A GEOGRAPHICAL PERSPECTIVE, THE URBAN SPACE, TO INVESTIGATE ITS CHARACTERS (ENVIRONMENTAL FRAMEWORKS, TERRITORIAL VALUES), ITS EVOLUTIONARY PROCESSES (FORMS OF THE URBAN EXPANSION), THE MAIN TYPES OF ORGANIZATION (INSIDE ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS AND RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE SUPERIOR GEOGRAPHICAL SCALES). PARTICULAR ATTENTION WILL BE PAID TO INFORMATION SOURCES AND DATASETS THAT CAN BE USED TO STUDY THE EUROPEAN URBAN SYSTEM.

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE CONSISTS OF 40 COMPULSORY HOURS OF LESSONS DIVIDED INTO 30 HOURS OF LECTURES AND 10 HOURS OF GROUP ACTIVITIES TO BE CONDUCTED IN THE LABORATORY. THE LATTER WILL DEEPEN METHODOLOGIES, TOOLS, SOURCES OF INFORMATION AND DATA SETS THAT CAN BE USED FOR THE STUDY OF EUROPEAN CITIES.
FOR THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE COURSE AND ESPECIALLY FOR THE ORGANIZATION OF LAB ACTIVITIES CALLS ATTENDANCE, ALTHOUGH NOT MANDATORY, IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. NON ATTENDING STUDENTS CAN PREPARE THEIR EXAM ON A SUITABLY DEFINED COURSE PROGRAM.
Verification of learning
THE EXAM WILL CONSIST IN AN ORAL INTERVIEW AIMED AT ASSESSING THE SKILLS ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT AND HIS ABILITY TO EXPOSE WITH APPROPRIATELY TECHNICAL LANGUAGE ISSUES AND CONTENTS OF THE COURSE. OPERATIONAL SKILLS WITH DATA BASES AND CASE STUDIES WILL ALSO BE EVALUATED
