THE COURSE PROVIDES STUDENTS WITH BOTH THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS AND EMPIRICAL APPLICATIONS OF THE ANALYSIS OF THE CITY AND THE URBAN NETWORKS. STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND AND INTERPRET CRITICALLY THE EVOLUTIONARY PROCESSES AND THE ISSUES THAT AFFECT URBAN SPACE IN DIFFERENT GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS. AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL HAVE ACQUIRED THE THEORETICAL AND OPERATIONAL BASES OF THE URBAN GEOGRAPHY. SHE WILL BE ABLE TO ANALYZE AND INTERPRET, IN A GEOGRAPHICAL PERSPECTIVE, THE URBAN SPACE, TO INVESTIGATE ITS CHARACTERS (ENVIRONMENTAL FRAMEWORKS, TERRITORIAL VALUES), ITS EVOLUTIONARY PROCESSES (FORMS OF THE URBAN EXPANSION), THE MAIN TYPES OF ORGANIZATION (INSIDE ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS AND RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE SUPERIOR GEOGRAPHICAL SCALES). PARTICULAR ATTENTION WILL BE PAID TO INFORMATION SOURCES AND DATASETS THAT CAN BE USED TO STUDY THE EUROPEAN URBAN SYSTEM. |

THE FINAL EVALUATION WILL CONSIST IN AN ORAL INTERVIEW AIMED AT ASSESSING THE SKILLS ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT AND HIS ABILITY TO EXPOSE WITH APPROPRIATELY TECHNICAL LANGUAGE ISSUES AND CONTENTS OF THE COURSE. OPERATIONAL SKILLS WITH DATA BASES AND CASE STUDIES WILL ALSO BE EVALUATED. |
