THE AIM OF THIS COURSE IS TO TEACH HOW TO SOLVE SIMPLE STRUCTURAL PROBLEMS BY USING THE MAJOR SPECTROSCOPIC TECHNIQUES (UV, NMR AND MS). AT THE END OF THE CLASS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO INTERPRET SPECTRA AND ASSESS THE STRUCTURE OF THE MOLECULES THE SUBJECTS OF THE CLASS ARE: GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF SPECTROSCOPY. NUCLEAR MAGNETIC RESONANCE. INTRODUCTION TO ATOM AND NUCLEI PROPERTIES. 1H-NMR AND SPECIAL TECHNIQUES FOR 1H-NMR. 13C-NMR AND SPECIAL TECHNIQUES FOR 13C-NMR. MASS SPECTROMETRY. INTRODUCTION TO IONISATION PROCESSES. FRAGMENTATION PROCESSES. ULTRAVIOLET AND VISIBLE SPECTROSCOPY. MOLECULAR ORBITAL AND ELECTRONIC TRANSITIONS. CHROMOPHORES. INFRARED SPECTROSCOPY. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE COURSE'S AIM IS TO LET STUDENTS LEARN HOW TO SOLVE A RANGE OF SIMPLE EXERCISES AND DETERMINE THE STRUCTURE OF COMPOUNDS FROM THEIR SPECTRA. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: STUDENTS ARE SUPPOSED TO PRESENT, IN A RIGOROUS MANNER, THE SPECTROSCOPY/SPECTROMETRY THEORY , STUDIED THROUGHOUT THE COURSE. MAKING JUDGMENTS: THE STUDENTS MUST LEARN THE PROPOSED TOPICS CRITICALLY, IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO MAKE AUTONOMOUS JUDGMENTS IN MORE COMPLEX FRAMEWORKS. LEARNING SKILLS: STUDENTS ARE MOTIVATED THROUGH A SERIES OF TESTS THROUGH WHICH TO CHECK THEIR PROGRESS, BY MEANS OF EXERCISES AND TASKS BOTH AT HOME AND DURING THE CLASSES. |

THE CLASS INCLUDES 32 HOURS OF LECTURES (4 CFU) AND 24 HOURS OF EXERCISES (2 CFU). LECTURES ARE PROVIDED IN CLASSES IN THE PRESENCE OF STUDENTS. THE MINIMUM FRACTION OF ATTENDED HOURS OF LECTURES REQUIRED TO TAKE THE EXAM IS 70%. THE ATTENDANCE CHECK WILL NOT BE CARRIED OUT. LANGUAGE: ITALIAN. |
Verification of learning | |

DURING THE COURSE THERE WILL BE PARTIAL ASSESSMENTS TESTS IN ORDER TO EVALUATE THE KNOWLEDGE LEVEL GAINED BY THE STUDENTS (DURATION: 90 MINUTES). THERE WILL BE TWO WRITTEN TESTS DURING THE COURSE. THE WRITTEN TESTS WILL DEAL ABOUT SPECTROSCOPY IN GENERAL AND THE SOLUTION OF SPECTRAL PROBLEMS. THE FINAL GRADE WILL BE THE AVERAGE OF THE TWO TESTS. FOR THE STUDENTS WHO DIDN'T PASS THE TESTS, A FINAL WRITTEN EXAM IS REQUIRED (DURATION: 90 MINUTES). TO PASS THE EXAM A MINIMUM LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE IS REQUESTED ABOUT THE MOST IMPORTANT TOPICS STUDIED DURING THE CLASSES AND MARKS EQUAL OR HIGHER THAN 18/30. THE EXCELLENCE IS GAINED WHEN THE STUDENTS KNOW THE STUDIED SUBJECTS IN A DEEP AND CRITICAL WAY. |
