Objectives
THIS CLASS IS AIMED TO ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF NOMENCLATURE AND OF CHEMICO-PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF THE MAIN FUNCTIONAL GROUPS OF ORGANIC COMPOUNDS, WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE STEREOCHEMICAL ASPECTS AND TO THE REACTION MECHANISMS AMONG THE MAIN CLASSES OF ORGANIC REACTIONS. ON THE BASIS OF THE ACQUIRED EXPERTISE, STUDENTS MUST BE ABLE TO CRITICALLY DISCUSS THE REACTION MECHANISMS AND SOLVE PROBLEMS REGARDING THE SYNTHESIS OF ORGANIC MOLECULES.

IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND AND KNOW HOW TO APPLY MOST OF THE TOPICS COVERED IN TEACHING, THE STUDENT MUST PASS THE EXAMINATION OF GENERAL AND INORGANIC CHEMISTRY

CHEMICAL BONDS AND ORGANIC MOLECULES STRUCTURE REPRESENTATION.
IUPAC NOMENCLATURE RULES OF ORGANIC COMPOUNDS.
STRUCTURE, GENERAL PROPERTIES, SYNTHETIC METHODS AND REACTIVITY OF THE MAIN ORGANIC COMPOUND CLASSES: ALKANES AND CYCLOALKANES, ALKENES, ALKYNES, CONJUGATED UNSATURATED SYSTEMS, AROMATIC COMPOUNDS, ORGANOMETALLICS, ALCOHOLS, FENOLS, ETHERS, CARBONYLIC COMPOUNDS, CARBOXYLIC ACIDS AND FUNCTIONAL DERIVATIVES, AMINES, BETA-DICARBONYLIC COMPOUNDS, HETEROCYCLES, CARBOHYDRATES.
STEREOCHEMISTRY AND REACTION MECHANISMS.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES 96 HOURS (12CFU) OF TEACHING DIVIDED BETWEEN 80 HOURS OF FRONTAL LESSONS AND 16 HOURS OF TRAINING EXERCISES, DURING WHICH STUDENTS DIRECTLY APPLY WHAT THE TEACHER INTRODUCES DURING THE LESSON.
THE FREQUENCY OF LESSONS AND EXERCISES IS MANDATORY.
IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM, THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST 70% OF THE TEACHING HOURS.
Verification of learning
CURRENT STUDENTS WILL BE GIVEN THE POSSIBILITY OF TAKING PART IN TWO TESTS IN ITINERE, THE PASSING OF WHICH IS ESSENTIAL TO BE ABLE TO ACCESS DIRECTLY TO THE ORAL INTERVIEW. THE FINAL PREPARATION ASSESSMENT IS CERTIFIED BY AN EVALUATION RANGING FROM 18 TO 30 AND, FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT PASSED THE TESTS IN ITINERE AND FOR ALL OTHER STUDENTS, LIES IN A WRITTEN AND AN ORAL TEST. THE WRITTEN TEST IS PREPARATORY TO THE ORAL TEST AND CONSISTS IN A TEST CONCERNING THE PROGRAM OF TEACHING. THE WRITTEN TEST IS CARRIED OUT BEFORE THE ORAL TEST AND IS CONSIDERED PASSED WITH THE REACHING OF A MINIMUM PREDETERMINED THRESHOLD, FIXED THROUGH AN APPROPRIATE EVALUATION GRID. THE WRITING TEST WILL LAST FOR TWO HOURS AND CONSISTS OF 3 NOMENCLATURE EXERCISES, 1 EXERCISE ON STEREOCHEMISTRY, 5 EXERCISES ON REACTIVITY OF FUNCTIONAL GROUPS, 2 EXERCISES ON MULTISTEPS ORGANIC SYNTHESIS, 2 EXERCISES ON REACTION MECHANISMS. THE ORAL TEST CONSISTS IN A DISCUSSION ON THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL CONTENTS INDICATED IN THE PROGRAM OF TEACHING.
